Jon Jones a Vegas favorite in potential bout against Brock Lesnar
Ben Fawkes
ESPN
7/31/17

Moments after defeating Daniel Cormier on Saturday night to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight championship, Jon Jones made his preference for his next fight well known.

He looked straight into the camera and said, "Brock Lesnar, you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by someone 40 pounds lighter? Meet me in the Octagon."

One Las Vegas sportsbook is already taking wagers on the potential superfight.

On Sunday, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened odds on the potential bout with Jones a -300 favorite and Lesnar +250.

Westgate sportsbook manager Jeff Sherman told ESPN that there was strong initial support for Jones, pushing him up to -450. The odds as of Monday morning were Jones -360, Lesnar +280.

Lesnar is currently retired and would need to serve out the rest of his one-year suspension from failing a doping test at UFC 200 last year.

UFC president Dana White noted the potential hurdles on Saturday night. "It would take six months for Lesnar to even go through USADA to fight," White said. "So it's fun to talk about, but the reality of it happening anytime soon, it's not a reality."

The fight must happen by Dec. 31, 2018, and be a UFC match for action. Wagers at Westgate will be refunded if the fight doesn't occur by that date.

As long as Brock is willing do it then it'll happen. But he is rich from UFC/WWE so not sure if he will have the incentive to get in there. Seems receptive so far though.

The great thing about UFC and Dana White is this match probably will happen eventually. In other sports people always dream up awesome scenarios. Dana White just makes shit happen.

It's like a fan running the UFC. Which is awesome. Totally unprofessional by the standards of any other commisioner or president, but he is the boss and doesn't give a fuck. Just this week with Woodley, the champion of his division fought a smart but boring fight. Dana comes out and says great, but if you want to fight like that you won't be headlining any more cards. Its really like having Joe Schmoe fan run the UFC and it's a great thing.

Many people do not like Dana but I agree he has been great for the UFC's growth. As entertaining as the bar style, no weight class, 3+ fights in one day were back in the early UFC days, Dana brought structure, great promoter and unlike boxing, he made it where it is almost impossible for fighters to dodge each other. He makes the match-ups happen and I think genuinely loves his job.

Would not even be close to a shock. If they fight, it will be another year at least. Brock gets ahold of him, he's going down down down to the mat. Only issue with Brock is his age and tiredness after the first round. Any of the top HW's could take Jones down if they wished to. DC and Brock are to different animals. It's a world of difference between LWH and HW, and again, that's why Jones wants no part of the top HW tier

Those odds do not surprise me one bit considering the circumstances. Years ago Tyson (who could never box a boxer) was a major favorite over Evander twice, that was some of the easiest money I've ever received. They (public) believe Jones will run away with the HW division soon, they will be mistaken

You're gonna pound Brock right? You said he would kill him.

How don't you go all-in on a guy who is going to crush at +285?

Hopefully it works out better for you than all the other times you bet against Bones.

Right on brother....your the GOD of all answers and outcomes

I've been saying for years he needs to be in his own division (HW). He will have no success in it, bank on it

I dunno about GOD, but I did think Jones would be a dominant champion unlike yourself. So I have that going for me.

And if you are 225 and can make 205 comfortably then you probably aren't going to fight at 260. That's a bit different move up in weight than going from 145 to 155 like McGregor did. But tough to explain these things to an MMA novice.
