My feelings on his retirement all depend on who his replacement is going to be.

And he'll be back, football is the only thing he has in his life. He'll get bored within the year and he'll commentate again.

he is being replaced by cris collinsworth

I always enjoyed Thanksgiving Day when John Madden would give out a turkey leg to the games most valuable player. Never will forget the time big Nate Newton from the Dallas Cowboys got the turkey leg and was chowing down on it on national television. A typical John Madden comment would sound something like "The guy gets the handoff and Boom, breaks a tackle and Boom cuts to the outside and Boom goes down the sideline for the touchdown."

shame to see the good ones head off into the sunset.....but he deserves the time with family, and the rest....he is a hall of famer no doubt, and a solid coach as well...he'll be missed

Although I can't confirm this, I bet he's sick.

Chris will tell it as he sees it. Would have my #1 pick!!!:toast:

i agree with you...

collinsworth is a good analyst...

i remember when nbc won the bid for sunday night football...

collinsworth was ebersol's 1st hire i believe...and he was 'supposed' to be the analyst for the broadcasts...

then madden became available...and nbc went after him...

collinsworth didn't whine about it...he waited patiently and now the gig is finally his.

how many days until training camps open?:)<<

i read espn's story....madden said his health is good...and he had a real hard time making up his mind to retire...

ebersol went to see him in person yesterday...and spent 11 hours trying to talk madden out of it...

i doubt ebersol would have done that if madden was ill...

he even offered madden two months off...so madden would have worked sept & nov games....collinsworth oct & dec.
