Just want to bump this up before the start of the 4th quarter so it will be easy to find when he makes his weekly boneheaded move.

I knew this thread would come in handy.

Just sitting there on the sidelines on 4th down watching the clock tick down.

Call a timeout and you would have about 60 seconds left to drive for a FG.

Now you only have 38 seconds.

This Detroit team should be elite but they are not.

Funny Chop....I texted my buddy the same thing earlier!

This team is loaded with talent but they are horribly coached with Schwartz, Linehan, etc............

Its a shame too. Detroit wastes all this talent with these awful coaches all the way back to Sanders days.

Detroit shouldve blew Baltimore away tonight but lost SU instead. A team with multiple all pros lacks focus, mechanics and fundamentals, discpline, etc...............I said the same thing about calling a timeout but Schwartz like most of these coaches is too stupid to understand that.

Stafford needs a great QB coach that teaches mechanics and fundamentals and he isnt getting it with these clowns. They continuously take stupid personal foul penalties with no consequences as well.

Some big name Coach is gonna go there and win at least 1 Supe in the next 3 years and add to his resume. This team should be challenging Seattle for Home Field, not begging for playoff scenarios to happen.

I agree with the bad clock management at the end.. this is only one of the many mistakes this guy has made this season...

Which big name coach wants to go to Detroit?

Minnesota sports talk radio has been great this year with fans calling for the firing of Frazier and the hiring of former great Viking Coach Bud Grant, Bud is going to be 87 in May:lol:

People saying Detroit cant get a big name coach is funny.

A big name coach would drool over this job.

Detroit is loaded with talent.
They have ownership that wont fire you unless you are completely incompetent for a long period of time. Remember how long Millan stayed around? Does anyone remember Wayne Fontes?

This is going to be the #1 job in the offseason if it comes open.

This job might even get Bill Cower, Tony Dungy, or John Gruden to come out of retirement.

Agree. This job and Houston's are fantastic opportunities. Houston is loaded except at QB, and are gonna get the #1 Choice to fix that. Detroit is loaded period. I don't know if any of the 3 you mention want back in, but job vacancies like these 2 don't come often in the NFL.

Schwartz is 29-50 in his career.

His team continually has penalty and turnover problems. With that roster, especially how talented that D line is, the level of losing should be unacceptable.

I would say Detroit is a desirable job for several reasons:

1. You would be taking over for a coach hated by the fans. Schwartz is a smug, egotistical asshole in a blue collar town. Doesn't help that he acts like the smartest guy in the room because he got an economics degree from Georgetown. Doesn't play we'll with the Lions fan base. From losing his mind and throwing a challenge flag on an unchallengeable play to dropping F bombs at the fans this last game he may be the most despised person in Detroit and that would be saying a lot. All a new coach has to do is show up and say some typical coach speak at his 1st press conference like "I can guarantee you one thing, this team will give 100% effort every play" and he will be instantly liked more than Schwartz.

2. There are no expectations or pressure. This team has one playoff win in 57 years! Guess what, there are at least 3-4 teams this year alone that will get at least 2 playoff wins. The lions have also not won a division title since 1993. It is not like their is pressure or expectations like the coach of the Cowboys, Steelers, Pats or 49ers. He'll, if the Pats only won the division this year and one playoff game many would consider it a bad season. If the new coach did that in Detroit they might have a parade and he would never have to pay for a lunch in Detroit again. In the past 50+ years the best coach the Lions have had is Wayne Fontes, that is who you are going to be compared against. Not Gibbs, Schula, Landry, Johnson, Belichick, or other great NFL coaches.

3. There is talent on this team. You have a HOF receiver, a QB who has a NFL arm, a decent pair of RBs and OLine. On D, the secondary needs help but the front seven are decent, in fact, the past 2 games, the D has only given up 1 TD in 127+ minutes of football and that was without their 2 starting corners. Also, a lot of the other teams Points were long FGs set up by TOs by the offense so the D never really had a a chance.

Schwartz is mainly to blame and he deserves to be fired immediately. He is a hot head who can't keep his cool and has no class. But i think AN EQUAL amount of blame needs to go to Matt Stafford. He has terrible fundamentals (great arm obv) and it costs them big time. He has thrown some mind blowing interceptions and chokes down the stretch. Everything was for the taking and a good QB easily gets that done. I mean the weapons and the fast track should be a huge advantage. I don't think their offensive playcalling is even bad. The defensive line is flat out nasty.
A new coach is all set up. But I have never trusted in Stafford to win big games even when in college and still don't. He has a great arm and puts up good looking stats but he doesn't have the focus and work ethic to win. Maybe he will learn this off season because this has to be about as low as you can go. The division is a train wreck and they have no excuse.

1st thought on Cower, Dungy, and Gruden is they all coached in a different time and I would like to see them back on the sidelines tomorrow. Maybe they could/would bring the game back as alot of us remember it. Then again on 2nd thought probably people in the 60's were talking about the forward pass then as we are talking about the changes in the game that are occurring now and will be questioned in 2040 probably as another time change and the next generation will want to see whoever back on the sidelines tomorrow, also

Phew
