Which big name coach wants to go to Detroit?
Minnesota sports talk radio has been great this year with fans calling for the firing of Frazier and the hiring of former great Viking Coach Bud Grant, Bud is going to be 87 in May:lol:
I would say Detroit is a desirable job for several reasons:
1. You would be taking over for a coach hated by the fans. Schwartz is a smug, egotistical asshole in a blue collar town. Doesn't help that he acts like the smartest guy in the room because he got an economics degree from Georgetown. Doesn't play we'll with the Lions fan base. From losing his mind and throwing a challenge flag on an unchallengeable play to dropping F bombs at the fans this last game he may be the most despised person in Detroit and that would be saying a lot. All a new coach has to do is show up and say some typical coach speak at his 1st press conference like "I can guarantee you one thing, this team will give 100% effort every play" and he will be instantly liked more than Schwartz.
2. There are no expectations or pressure. This team has one playoff win in 57 years! Guess what, there are at least 3-4 teams this year alone that will get at least 2 playoff wins. The lions have also not won a division title since 1993. It is not like their is pressure or expectations like the coach of the Cowboys, Steelers, Pats or 49ers. He'll, if the Pats only won the division this year and one playoff game many would consider it a bad season. If the new coach did that in Detroit they might have a parade and he would never have to pay for a lunch in Detroit again. In the past 50+ years the best coach the Lions have had is Wayne Fontes, that is who you are going to be compared against. Not Gibbs, Schula, Landry, Johnson, Belichick, or other great NFL coaches.
3. There is talent on this team. You have a HOF receiver, a QB who has a NFL arm, a decent pair of RBs and OLine. On D, the secondary needs help but the front seven are decent, in fact, the past 2 games, the D has only given up 1 TD in 127+ minutes of football and that was without their 2 starting corners. Also, a lot of the other teams Points were long FGs set up by TOs by the offense so the D never really had a a chance.
