New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Cunningham — who missed all of the 2014 regular season with a torn Achilles tendon — has been charged with criminal mischief, invasion of privacy and unlawful weapons transport.
Cunningham was arrested December 29 at his apartment in Summit, New Jersey when police responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute. The Jets linebacker reportedly gave officers consent to search his car when they were on the scene. They then found a .380 handgun in the glove compartment of his Audi, according to a spokesman for the Union County Prosecutor’s office.
He was also charged with third-degree invasion of privacy, as a state law prohibits the disclosure of photos or videos without the consent of someone “whose intimate parts are exposed” or who is engaged in a sexual act. Prosecutors say Cunningham and the woman involved lived together.
In addition, Cunningham was charged with criminal mischief for the destruction of clothing. It’s unclear as to exactly what was destroyed at the present time.
The Jets declined to comment on the situation.
