In all honesty, racism is still a problem in the U.S.A...and everywhere else for that matter. However, it is a problem because of people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. I am so sick and tired of their bull$hit. Every chance they get to bring a race card into the national spotlight, they do. It is because of their attitudes and their actions that racism is still so powerful. As a white, middle class American I have had friends of all races, colors, and creeds. I have never led a sheltered life and I have seen racism first hand. I would never consider myself racist, nor would anyone who knew me. However, due to men like Sharpton and Jackson constantly thrusting racism in the national spotlight, I sometimes finding myself resenting them and their constant push for "equality". As I see it, they are not fighting for equality, but rather favoritism towards minorities.
A few facts:
We have BET (Black Entertainment Television). If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) it would be racist.
We have scholorships dedicated to only people of color. We have colleges dedicated to only people of color. Universities have quotas on minorities that have to be met when accepting new students. If we had scholorships, schools, and quotas for white people....it would be racist.
We have the NAACP. The only white equivalent I can think of is the KKK (granted my lack of knowledge of either organization is extensive, so I would like it clear that this is my perception, not my conclusion). KKK is a hate group...NAACP is there to help colored people (however, ask a KKK member and he will say the KKK helps white people).
Maybe I am just venting, but I had to get it out. Something I have thought about for a while.
