Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Tuesday came out strongly against the continued practice of NFL players protesting the national anthem before games.

Jones made his opinions clear on the issue during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan’s Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM].

“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have,” Jones said, as transcribed by The Dallas Morning News. “I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it.”

Jones’ stand against anthem protests echoes the opinions expressed last week by Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who referred to the anthem and the flag as “sacred.”

The Cowboys owner also reinforced his own comments from last season when he referred to the protests as “disappointing.”

The protests of course were spawned by Colin Kaepernick after he began kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner” last season. Other players followed suit and the practice has continued this NFL preseason, with players such as Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, among others, continuing the trend.

The protest took another step in turning into a full-fledged movement Monday night when 12 Cleveland Browns players knelt during the anthem as five others stood nearby in a show of solidarity ahead of the team’s exhibition match-up against the New York Giants.

The Browns issued a statement after the game expressing support for the players’ decision to kneel.

#Browns statement on anthem protest

It’s safe to assume Jones would not authorize such a statement should Cowboys players elect to make a similar sign of protest.

Why did Garret say the flag was sacred? Like the shit they are standing/sitting for isn't sacred lol. Just shows the disconnect. They are using their platform for where they will be the most heard. Before a game, and after a game is usually their platform. They can make a new platform and go protest out on the street...but I don't advise that because one, it is not safe, clearly. And two, the question that will come out of it will be...."does he still care about football? How come he isn't training to get better?" You have to be one of the highest paid and best players on your team to do that. Someone with job security. And not everyone has that in the NFL lol. Therefore this is their safest platform. And if they can bring attention this way then it makes it the obvious easy choice.

I know you guys do this because I do this....people classify people when they see them. You always want to put someone in a box. What's different about them. How do they look, how do they talk? Okay let me put them in a box now. That's what people do to identify people. And it's wrong on many levels because you are and I am making assumptions on people I have just seen based on how they speak, dress, and look. It's human nature. But I'm not going to judge someone and put them in a box based on kneeling for the flag when most people have NO CLUE what they have experienced before. It is entirely a different mindset.

Lolol is that all you have to say in response? I'm giving you and Bourn no time of day clearly. There is no hope for you two. You guys need to go back to Iraq and clean up some bad guys for us with all that American flag obsession. We get it, you served. I have 3 friends who also served. I appreciate it.

I am still going to watch the NFL because I am a sports fan and a huge football fan, but I do have a breaking point, just not sure what it is....but I can tell you I am getting angrier and angrier. I would like to call the NFL offices to complain, is there a way to do so?

did a quick search and could not locate a number to get through. So I am not supposed to complain because the games will still kick off in time?

Oh yes, complain if it makes you feel better. I am a big proponent of doing things that increase well-being
