Jeremy Hermida hit a grand slam home run in his first
major league at bat for the Marlins in the bottom of
the 7th inning. Only 2nd player ever to do this...last
one was prior to 1900!!!!

If it wasn't a 10-0 game the kid wouldn't even see a fastball. The kid should also go on record for hitting the most useless grand slam ever.

I understand the feat and how rare something like occurs. But the announcers just beat it to death. They couldn't stop talking about it. For an eternity it seemed, they kept showing him sitting in the dugout and Thorne and Sutcliffe kept repeating what happend over and over and over again. You would have thought it was Gary Thorne's son or some big wig's relative at ESPN the way everybody carried on about it. My God, I was actually yelling at my TV to make them stop. And the more I yelled, the more they harped on it. It made sick that I had to actually change the channel.

The kid hit a homerun against a pitcher who has been lights out for most of the year. It wasn't just because it was 10-0 that he got a pitch to hit....LaRussa brought in a fresh pitcher to face him.

That was awesome to see as a Marlins fan. Hermida had been regarded as a future star for a while now and he certainly came in with a bang. I'm guessing ESPN rambled on about it cause there really wasn't all that much excitement to the game besides that.

I believe Cabrera has a homer in his first at bat as well. Hermida is our top hitting prospect and if he pans out, I like our future.
