I think you already know what I think of this game...my biggest play of the year...my "loyal client play" James Madison all the way to the bank Deke

Davidson is ranked 21, and is favored by 15.

Thoughts?

Do you really like this game, or are you just making the play because it is the earliest start time on the board?

I am not asking, in attempt to be smart, just curious. I think there are better games out there.

I like that you noticed that. No I'm not just craving action, I am just trying to get to know a couple teams each night and I read that James Madison has some offensive firepower and a new coach (In the article posted). And I know Davidson is strong, just as they were last year, but they didn't play any defense against Guilford and there is a good chance 15 is too much tonight, just hard to tell because James Madison hasn't proven anything, its just an article.

I am going to play over 67 in the first half. JMU has a new coach from a team that lead the CAA in scoring and was last in defense. They still have some decent offensive players in Jalloh, Curtis and Jones. Davidson played their first game at home and lead 56-44 (100 points). Now, they are playing on a neutral court and will need to conserve energy for another game tomorrow. Let's hope the Dukes don't play much defense in the first half.

Davidson/JMU over 67 (half)

Davidson/JMU over 67 (half)

Brady is defensive minded and JMU will be much improved on defense.

So what does conserving energy even mean, they aren't going to attempt to rebound unless the ball comes right to them. Also, if you would conserve your players, you do that in the 2nd half, when the game is out of reach.

Where do people come up with these theories?

That is not to say your play doesn't hit or won't hit, but the logic is incorrect.

I see that the line opened at 17, and that 50% are on each side of the spread, and it moved to 15.

TAKE NOTE THAT DAVIDSON BEAT GUILFORD 107-83. (This is the only game we can go by so far.)

1) Who is Guilford?
2) They scored 83 against Davidson, a ranked team.
3) Guilford had 36 turnovers in the game! And still only lost by 24.
4) James Madison should have a much better offense than Guilford, and shouldn't reach half as many turnovers today.
5) JM's defense has struggled, but Brady is defensive minded and should have them better defensively.

Don't put any stock in that game.

That was like open gym. I mean you just get out and shoot. They probably ran about 5 sets in the game, if that.

I like everything you are saying.

But what are some things to base a pick off of for the first couple games of any sport then? If the information in this thread can all be thrown out, what are we left with? Just asking...

Should bets not be placed until each team is 3 or 4 games into the season?

I follow Marist fairly close...Brady was a very good coach. I'm not sure I would say he is exceedingly defensive minded - his teams at Marist have tended to be average - below average defensively in my eyes (though it probably had more to do with the talent/type of players he recruited). He does tend to a run an average paced game with a lot of 3 point shots. James Madison didn't attempt too many threes last year and they ran more up-tempo than Brady's Marist teams have. Will be interesting to see if he comes in and tries to change things right away. Personally I'm staying away, but will definitely be following JMU to see how they come along. Would not be surprised if Brady gets them going in the right direction sooner rather than later.

Since they are expecting 67 in the first half and 77.5 in the 2nd half (144.5) wouldn't you think more energy/effort would be needed to score over 77.5 than 67? If Davidson is up 75-55 in the last few minutes of the game in a blowout do you think Curry and other players are going to be in the game giving 100% and using up valuable energy when there is another game the next day?

No, because you have to factor in fouls and more 3 points shots late in the game if the other team is losing. Also, more uncontested layups occur in the final minute of a game then at any other point and time.

I agree that the Red Foxes were not Wisconsin and Bo Ryan, but they were decent on the defensive side, but against a team like Davidson, who can put the ball in the hole better than JMU, you are probably going to want to slow the pace a bit and concentrate on good defensive efforts in half court sets, because when they get out and run on missed shot, the defense is in a scattered floor situation, which makes it more diffiicult.

I think defense will prove greatly this year and their scoring will be down from last year.
