The national average sentence for the same crime Ravens runningback Jamal Lewis is being sentenced to is 51 months....Lewis will serve 5 in the off season.

While Lewis still insists he's innocent, and taking the 'deal' is the best way to put it behind him (I would agree), the national average sentence and what Lewis is getting is eye opening, or is it? Afterall he is a celebrity:neenee:

Great example for the American people.

God Bless the Justice Dept. A fair and unbias group we have there.

judging by the plea agreement prosecuters made, i would say there was a strong chance he would have walked had it went to trial.

I can understand why Lewis "wants to put it behind him", but he better watch out what he says now. The judge might not accept a guilty plea if the defendant is mantaining he is innocent especially publicly.

on a somewhat related note...there is a good chance J. Lewis will not play this sunday against Washington as the league is preparing a suspension of 2 or 4 games tomorrow. J. Lewis is not expected to appeal the decision.

Trust Me the Feds don't mess around, if they indict you they don't care who you are, they just want that conviction, and to get that low of a sentence with that much volume he's cooperatin, he's a rat

better than 85% of all people that are indicted in federal court plea. The funny thing is that if I read the story right he pled guilty to some bogus cell phone charge. I dont see how the NFL should be able to suspend him for having a Cell Phone charge. Unless there is some morals clause that all NFL players have that states that if you are guilty of any felony.

using a cell phone is part of a conspiracy case when conducting a drug deal. People are doing life for doing less. Actually its closer to 99% plead out,but your starting with a MANDATORY MININUM sentence of at least 5 years at the very least. To get that you need to accept responsibility and that might get you down to 37 months, and maybe another year off for first time offender , but to get down to 6 months he's cooperating, 100% for sure.

Jamal Lewis attorneys are the best in the south- trust me- I used them. I think the feds know he knows the "big guy" in the drug business. He might sell out his lifetime friend but not a drug kingpin. Personally I didnt think he'd get any time at all. Ray Lewis walked on murder here.

Red Eye- You get the 2 point deduction for acceptance and at the most a 4 point deduction for cooperation aand that is only if your safety is in jeopardy. With this offense is it worse to use a cell phone than a regular phone? Is there a offense at all for using a regular phone? I just find it odd how they specify CELL phone.

I think Lewis figured it was easier just to take the 4 months, even though he more than likely would have walked, but we're talking about his life being on the line compared to 4 months, at age 24?

Shoot, I'd take 4 months even if there was 1% chance i could lose 10 years...4 months will fly by, Lewis will just work out and be ready next yr...better to just get it over with instead of sweating a long trial...reward vs risk, no brainer!

Journey- I agree across the board! When you see that indictment and it says UNITED STATES OF AMERICA vs. you. You feel like you have no chance.

IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IF IT WAS A REGULAR PHONE OR CELL PHONE, I'M SURE THEY WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT WHAT HE WAS ACTUALLY USING. AS FAR AS HAVING A GOOD ATTORNEY, ITS ALMOST IRRELAVANT BECAUSE fEDS GO BY GUIDLINES AND YOU JUST CAN'T GET UNDER IT UNLESS ITS BEEN RDUCED TO A MISDEMENOR. EVERY GUY THAT RATS ALWAYS SAYS I HAD A GOOD LAWYER

lIKE i SAID THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 4 MONTH fEDERAL DRUG SENTENCE WHEN YOUR DEALING WITH A MANDATORY MININUM CASE LIKE HE WAS IN.tHE VERY BEST HE COULD HAVE GOT IS 2 1/2 YEARS ON A PLEA BVARGAIN WITHOUT TALKING AND COOPERATING. HE RATTED PEOPLE OUT, PROBABLY NOT MANY THOUGH SINCE IT WAS A WEAK CASE

That has increased dramatically in the last 20 years due to drug cases.

Prohibition against alcohol didn't work. It's not working against harder drugs either.

What are the odds that two guys with the same last name who play on the same team are charged with felonies?

Ah, nothing like celebrity justice. From Courtney Love who continually makes a mockery of your justice system to OJ who is undoubtedly still searching for his wife's killer or killers.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him get a standing ovation on Sunday either. And for what?
