why require jai alai or dogs at all?

Florida has stupid laws, you have to have live jai alai to have a poker room... WHY ?
BINGO. Too many stupid laws in not just Florida, but most states. The political arena we all live in here in the US is such a joke. You can have a card room, but only is you do this, this, and this. You can have a casino but part of it has to be touching this body of water. Our country is beyond fucked up.

Agreed. Same with the bill Harry Reid tried to pass last year trying to legalize on-line poker but you could only open up a legal site if you ran an established casino for 10 years. WTF is that? What happened to capitalism, free market economies, no monopolies and no barriers of entry in the land of the free? Political influence and lobbying has bastardized gambling in America and it is the worst example of corrupt politicians.

I laugh every time I see Steve Wynn rail on Obama and how Obama is killing businessman and jobs for people like Steve Wynn. Hey Wynn, wake up and realize you are part of a government supported Monopoly!!! You have no competition because the U.S. government won't allow me to open a casino tomorrow like I can a Starbucks, Subway or dry cleaners. He is such a hypocrite every time he opens his mouth because opening a casino for the average joe is about the same odds as opening a nuclear power plant.

Mendi and some other players play there...they are very very good

not anymore, just two players....CHRIS and JUD, I bet they are not good at all. Two guys playing against each other, point after point in singles has to boring to watch or even for them to play. No way are they going to play hard for zero crowd, the handle is likely $0 for an entire performance.

When I went to UF we would drive down to Ocala occasionally for Jai alai. I had never seen it before then...had a lot of fun and won a couple of dollars.

If the Ocala Jai-Alai players beat-up their girlfriends or shoot guns in the air, preferably both, the university of Florida will surely offer them football scholarships

One event I never got to see. I was a high ranking racquetball player for years and always had an interest to watch a jai alai match. Just wished I could have at least tried the sport but nothing doing in the midwest. Anyways, from what I have read, I had heard that there was a lot of collusion on the circuit in setting up rigged matches. Anyone know if that is the case? What country did this sport start in? Asian?

It’s not always easy to find out what former Florida Gators’ greats are up to, but when you do it can be very surprising. That’s the case with former Gators’ kicker and Groza Award winner Judd Davis who is currently playing Jai Alai in Ocala, FL.

I’ll be honest by saying I don’t really understand a lot in that article. That’s not meant to disparage the sport in any way, but I hadn’t heard of a “fronton” until today. The issue it seems is that Ocala Poker and Jai Alai only has two players participating in the current season. Davis is one of them.
Those of you that remember Davis, recall one of the greatest kickers in Florida history. Davis went from walk-on to best-in-the-nation and was a key player on some of Steve Spurrier’s earlier squads. Davis is truly a Gators’ great.
