I thought Hugh Jackson was the dumbest coach in the NFL.

Agreed that was just beyond stupid.

Yeah that was really bad. If it isn’t Bortles blowing the game (though he did have a big late pick) then it’s the coach lol

Marone is a fukball... Seen it in buffalo for that time.
Not even Coordinator material.
Reason to gripe, but I would Not have given points on the road here.

I made a thread about him a few years ago. Let's see if you people can spot his mistake. While Marone was at Syracuse his team scored a TD to go up by ONE POINT with .06 to go. What should the next play have been? Scroll Down.......

If you answered "TAKE A KNEE" congrats on being smarter than the average football Marone! Why take a knee? Because there is zero chance your opponent will have the time to do anything that leads to them being able to kick a FG. AND, you can LOSE the game by going for 2!

What did Marone do?
Like the idiot he is he went for 2.
And his team almost lost the game when the pass was picked off. Luckily for Marone one of his players was able to push the defender OOB before he could return it for the winning score.

I'm new to football but isn't the PAT an untimed play? How would taking a knee change anything.

It can't get returned for 2 points and turning a W into a L

I understand.....but wouldn't they still have to kick off to the other team since no time would run from the clock?

Agree about not giving points with the Jags. I'm in a confidence pool where you just pick teams on the money line. Would have won the pool this week if Jags won the game. Late interception by Bortles when they had a chance to drive for a winning score was a real killer, but should have at least had a chance at OT. Just pissed at the stupid clock management.

Yes, but they are kicking off either way. If they go for 2 and it gets intercepted for a TD, they are now down 1 instead of up 1. If you take a knee, guaranteed to be up 1 when kicking off.

That was horrid coaching. He also relies too much on Bortles and not his stud RB (thought hey may be because of his ankle). EIther way, he puts way too much in the hands of Bortles in close games when he doesn't have to.

But that 2nd down pass, was stupid even if you had a good QB. If they were running a hurry-up on each play, maybe. Or if they weren't struggling for a playoff spot and put caution into the wind. That needless pass (from a shitty QB to a decent WR with a drop problem, who was covered well and was not going to get a large gain if he caught it) was just bad playcalling

Bortles has been up and down in his short career, but he showed in the playoffs, he's not the awful QB people were calling him at the end of the regular season. Jags got very conservative when they went up 10. Didn't take any deep shots, and played not to lose. Not the smartest coaching I've seen.
