AI way better defender than Stockton
John Stockton = ALL TIME NBA Steals Leader (Not to mention all time assists leader.THink about that for a second. ALL TIME leader in B0TH of those categories. That's BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL holding being an all time record holder in!! Absolutely amazing feat.........)

JJ, cmon partner! What's wrong with you tonight?!?:>Grin>

I actually like Iverson JJ. Not really a bad guy. Yes he dresses crazy and all, but not a troublemaker and pretty good overall person.......

What everyone is forgetting is Iverson basically played with no one his whole career as opposed to these other guys

Hache,

You happen to have access to the SPG avg of both Stockton and Iverson?
I have no idea but assume it would be real close. Obviously Stockton has more steals cause he played much longer, but Iverson is at the top or close every year in steals. So it might be a push in the steals department.

JJ makes a good point that the Sixers had terrible talent when Iverson arrived. I mean terrible. Sixers were hirrible in the draft for years before AI. Weatherspoon, Sharone Wirght, Shawn Bradley were all lottery picks. Then it was Stackhouse with the # 3 overall.

Then Larry Brown came and added average talent with good work ethic. Which was good shrot term but not long term so by the team Brown left there was nothing left over. Guys like Mutombo and McKie nad Tyrone Hill.

When Iverson did have decent players around him they were very good teams. With bad players aroudn him they are average, but take Iverson away and they are Atlanta.

He is tough to play with and that is a problem, but not many players are more fun to watch. Amazing quickness and instincts.

Laeda, not arguing with you here of course, but here's the numbers through 1st 9 years of careers.....(Iverson has completed 9 full seasons)

Allen Iverson 1st 9 seasons STEALS = 1,134
John Stockton 1st 9 seasons STEALS = 1,832

Not even close, and the assists are even farther apart.........

Allen Iverson 1st 9 seasons ASSISTS = 3,231
John Stockton 1st 9 seasons STEALS = 8,352

I am not a big Iverson fan because of attitude, but he is a damn good player. As for the best I don't know, but he can play with the best.

AI greatest small gaurd ever? Please. To be the greatest at anything you have to bust ass practice with your team and lead by example. He does none of that. When you dont practice you are uncoachable. He is very talented but he does not make his team-mates any better and he shoots a horrible percentage. He gives his all in games but in this case it is not enough. Best ever? No shot.

I would like to see A.I. guard Jordan in his prime like Dumars did.
Did anyone "GUARD" Jordan in his prime? :dancefool

I'm on the AI bandwagon!! He doesnt shoot a great percentage, but his surrounding cast sucks. If you were coach, would you rather have him taking those shots, or someone else on the team? I played in HS against a kid that was much the same. Averaged about 35 ppg. was about 5'10 and took about 40 shots a game. Didnt shoot a great percentage, and everyone bitched about him being a "ball hog," but take him away and his team doesnt win 10 games all yr, with him they win their district! He makes what he has as a surrounding cast better, whether you can believe it or not!

Is anyone more presentable at a news conference than Iverson?

I've never seen a guy who makes that much money and cant afford more than a Tshirt and cant afford to take some lessons to learn how to speak english ...

Iverson deft spells TEAM with the Letter I in it ...

The two guys I saw that could guard him with some success were Dumars and Jeff Malone. A.I. still does not play shutdown defense.

Another small guard who was pretty darned good in his day was Calvin Murphy.
