someone pointed this out to me:
He leaves Seattle, they start winning. He goes to Texas, they lose and lose. He leaves Texas and they start winning. He goes to Yankees, they start losing. Also, just like when he played in Texas, ARod is the only one hitting right now. I wonder what the over/under is for when GS blows a gasket, if not already. Hell, the fans enthatically booed Jeter yesterday. That's just something you don't hear everyday. However though, I do believe after GS does his big tirade in the media, the Yanks will turn it around. How good of a turnaround? That remains to be seen. Oh yeah, one more thing. Babe Ruth's number was 3. ARod's number before he came to NY...3
Reverse of the curse? Hmm, that remains to be seen and its only April. besides, its a marathon, not a sprint.

quote:
Also, just like when he played in Texas, ARod is the only one hitting right now.

HUH?? ARod the only one hitting??? ARods current avg - .257; current HR's - 3; current RBI's - 5. These numbers project to .257, 26, 43 over 162 games. If this is considered "hitting" for ARod, I'd hate to see what it's like when he is NOT hitting.

Now I know that it is early, and things can change in a hurry. But I stand by my prediction from before the season started - the Rangers got the best of this trade by far. Best hitter in baseball? Better than Bonds?? Better than Pujois? Gimme a break!! I also predicted ARod will NOT hit 40 HR's. Anyone wanna take me up on this on a side bet??

I agree Fish. I left Manny off my list because I thought that he probably benefited unfairly from hitting in Fenway (much the same way that ARod benefited from hitting in Texas). After checking the facts, though, I'm surprised to learn that Manny's numbers are even better on the ROAD in his career! Knowing this, I would also rate Ramirez ahead of ARod.

If This Yankee team didn't wear pinstripes and that Yankee hat, they would be considered just another team. Right now they look like a team full of 35 yr.old Jack Clarkes.

i can not get over just how badly the sox dismantled the yanks in those 7 games.

the sox scored with power, they had the better starting pitching, the relief pitching didnt give up a single run. the sox even manufactured runs and played small ball at times getting steals from the catcher and the like. they played better defense i mean they did everything it was just unreal and the demeanor they had they hardly ever got excited or happy it was like business as usual attitude the whole time. it just blows me away. i mean they didnt even use schill when they were at yankee stadium and they got the sweep.

Manny is an RBI machine and a headcase all in one...take it all or nothing.. he will drive in 5 and then miss firstbase running the bases , he's as dangerous a righty as we have seen since Frank Robinson

''Still, We Believe:'' Red Sox documentary debuts in Boston
By Helena Payne, Associated Press, 4/26/2004 22:01

BOSTON (AP) Eight months of hope, glory, frustration and disappointment sounds like the recipe for a Hollywood epic. But ''Still, We Believe: The Boston Red Sox Movie'' is still waiting for the cliched happy ending.

Hundreds of Red Sox fans watched the world premiere of the documentary Monday night at the Loews Theatres Boston Common, just a couple miles from Fenway Park.

''Being a Red Sox fan is like a religion. It's like faith, and when playoffs season comes around, it's like your faith is reborn,'' said Trevor Cruikshank, 18, of Malden, a student at Emerson College.

The documentary's producer, Bob Potter, and director, Paul Doyle Jr., followed eight of the team's most fervent fans for the dramatic 2003 season, which ended when the Red Sox came within a few outs of beating the rival New York Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. Instead of having a shot at winning their first World Series since 1918, Boston ended up losing 6-5 in 11 innings.

''Ever since Game Seven of the ALCS last year, I looked forward to this year because we came up short, and I know we made a lot of changes,'' said Mike Schuster, 41, of Foxboro, who stood among the fans outside the premiere, baring his red-and-blue belly painted with the Red Sox logo and the words ''Still we believe.''

It's precisely that unwavering, and sometimes bizarre, loyalty that sets the tone for the documentary with an ending that is all too familiar for Red Sox Nation.

The first words of the film express the agony when a voice off camera explains, ''Red Sox are like the woman who treats you so bad, you don't care,'' as the camera focuses on Fenway Park.

The fans in the film include Paul Costine of Watertown, known as ''Angry Bill,'' a frequent caller to local sports talk radio, whose witty one-liners about the Red Sox drew chuckles from the audience.

There's also the blonde duo, Erin Nanstad and Jessamy Finet, friends from Boston who call themselves professional fans, who attend as many games as possible and have designed their lifestyles around Fenway Park.

John Henry, principal owner of the Red Sox, allowed the film crew full access to the team all season. But the result, he said, was a movie that's mostly about the fans.

''It was a magical year, and I think you'll see that in the film,'' Henry said.

First baseman Kevin Millar, the only player to attend the premiere, seemed as comfortable on the red carpet as on the field. He said fans enjoyed the 2003 season because it was ''phenomenal.''

''I think they can relate with us. We're just normal, old people,'' said Millar, whose newcomer status last season was the target of several jokes in the documentary.

The makers of the film had asked fans to select the title. Nearly 8,000 people voted, and ''Still, We Believe'' was the favorite. Other choices included ''This Is the Year,'' ''The Ecstasy and the Agony'' and ''Always the Bridesmaid.''

''Still, We Believe,'' a THINKFilm release, is scheduled for national release in a few weeks.
