I don't get why they have to have so many cars in the first place. And the whole qualifying scheme is silly, I mean Gordon and Biffle were way at the back and still got near the front in a matter of less than a hundred miles. Why not cut the field down to 24 cars and then make qualifying really mean something. If Gordon's team can't get him a better car, he sits out the Great American Race. So be it, getting into the race will be a bigger part of it. Most golf tournaments are lucky that Tiger always makes the cut, if he missed a few then people would certainly pay more attention to Thursday and Friday. That is how NASCAR should get it. So much NASCAR could do to make it exciting. Having short qualifying races instead of speed trials would be a good way to start, the big names would usually be in the race because the top points guys could always start near the front. In any case you are right, the lower teams can't keep a car in the full season and they shouldn't. They can aim for certain races or the bigger stables could take a race off every now and then with this new playoff system. Could make the NASCAR world even more dynamic and would give fans something more to watch than just a Busch race on Saturday.
