Is this a BAD LINE constituting no bet??

Suppose I place a wager on the upcoming PGA CHAMPIONSHIP with the following odds...

#1. Michelson 6-1
#2 Els 7-1
#3. Woods 8-1
#4. Singh 8-1
Golfers #5-30 ranging from 10-1 to 50-1
FIELD 25-1

DAVIS LOVE III is not listed among the 30 golfers with odds, so I place a wager on the FIELD at 25-1 thinking this is a good bet considering DAVIS LOVE is in the field.........the 5th ranked golfer in the world.

I recieve no notification from the sportsbook I made the bet at and LOVE goes on to win the tournament.

Should I be entitled to my winning bet at 25-1 odds??

Please note-- Consider that LOVE is not to be found in any other future FIELD bet anywhere.

If Love was expected to play when the lines were first posted then the situation is clear -- bet stands.

But if he joined the field unexpectedly after the odds were posted, and if his odds were under 10-1 (I don't know golf but I imagine it would be), then it's just like any other bad line -- the bookie should cancel the bet BEFORE the start of the match. Having failed that they can probably cancel after the fact if they have a clause like that in their rules.

Good business IMO would be to pay the bet at a reduced price like half, say. That would show some goodwill yet still avoid the scam you clearly tried to pull on them.

That's my 2c anyway.

Bad line??

The case can possibly be made that the book in question made an obviously terrible mistake(bad line) by omitting LOVE from the top 30 golfers listed with odds and by now having the 5th ranked player in the world in the field with 70+ other golfers at 25-1 odds they can claim the bad line rule.

Just throwing this scenario out there and seeing the various responses that are offered.

NO WAY THAT IS A BAD LINE!!!

bad line rule is supposed to save the book if they put the line up as +1000 when they meant to do +100. or similar circumstances.

player should definetly be paid in your scenario.

SS- I am making the claim that the book in question did not employ the bad line rule until AFTER the event was over or to make things more complicated..........midway through the tournament.

Well, a similar situation actually happened for real in a NASCAR race.

I had Tony Stewart in the field at 28-1 at a particular book in Vegas when he was the 3rd or 4th choice at most other books at around 10-1.

Of course, he didnt win.

So in the majority of peoples minds here, you think I had a bet that was good to go?

I made the bet under the assumption that the bet was good to go also.

I just have a strange feeling that if Stewart would have won, the book would have cried FOUL.

But since I lost the wager, nothing was said.

a bad line in my opinion is only a typo problem. Like a person said above +5500 instead of +550.

Just a human or machine typo type of error. If those are caught before or even after the event I have no problem with a cancel policy for that event.

anything else is fair game after the bet is confirmed and for sure after the event starts.

sorry forgot to say........ The sportsbook and the evidence demonstrates this is a typo, they found it quickly and refunded all wagers both ways and now have it fixed.
That is what they should do. sorry you did not get your free 2 1/2 games and later no doubt a middle opportunity to lok in a big payday.

If it was known that Love would participate a reasonable line for him would have been (judging from what the lines for golfers seeded 1 to 4) something like 10 to 1. There is no way that the field bet posted line of 25 to 1 is a "good" line. It should have been more like 5 to 1 or so. Therefore the claim that this was not a fair line is valid. I believe the book's claim is correct. Of course they did not notice until pretty late which complicates things. However, the posted line for the field was excessively off.
