Is there any legit proof that American cars are inferior?

I think it's a stereotype a lot of people play to influence there decisions in buying a car. I've never had an American car myself, have driven one. I'm not a car guy though so I couldn't tell you if they are inferior. I know people buy the Jap cars because there cheaper and get better mileage, doesn't necessarily make the American car inferior though. With some modifications you can get the price down and the mileage up. Are they really an inferior product or is it more of a stereotype.

It's the reliability that swings it.
Suddenly you find that you have a car which just keeps on going and you hardly need to lift the bonnet.

Eventually most folk get fed up of wriggling about under a car and donating bits of flesh to the metal.

I had a great time with Fords when I was young tho.

have had ups and downs with american cars. skylark and lebaron were complete shit, mustang and t-bird were the tops. problem is how can you possibly buy american today? take the 6 year, 60k mile warranty...who is going to honor it? you want some US Gov employee working on it?
I've owned Kia, Hyundai, VW, Nissan, Ford, Buick, Chrysler, Olds, Volvo ... personally would toss VW above the rest but really have not had issues except for the LeBaron and Skylark.

I think, overall, most cars are built very well but I'm sure there are reliability and lifespan studies out there to substantiate these claims

It's reliability. Plain and simple.

Had a Buick Century back in 88. Made it to around 60k before it turned into a money pit. Drove a Ford Aerostar afterwards. Mostly for work and hauling things. That made it to about 53k (yes 53k!!!)then i got tired of figuring out what to replace next. Took it as far as it would go with duct tape and zip ties. Kept both em on thier maintenance schedules like clockwork up and through the warranty periods. After racking up a few thousand in parts and countless hours in my garage (although those times were fun), I waived the white flag.

thats about when they began improving quality

........................................................................

When you factor cost of labor and parts its a no-brainer

and it is a proven fact that most self made millionaires drive American cars

American Cars are the greatest thing since sliced bread... I've had several Fords & never had a bit of trouble with any of them... Mustangs were the most reliable Cars I've ever owned.. I have an 89 F-150 still sitting out front... Has a straight 6 banger in it & does'nt burn a drop of oil...I take very good care of my vehicles... If I take care of them they take care of me plain & simple..Think of it this way do you see cops driving Camrys?..No what do they drive but mostly Crown Victorias.. So all you rice burner pretenders out there can eat some shit.

haha, crown vics..same thing for pigs in my town..except they are replacing them every 4 years or less cause Ford sucks that way. Although my first nice car was a Ford and I loved it. That doesn't change the fact that Honda kicks Ford's ass.

:lolBIG: They put a lot of miles on them do you want your cops driving around in 10 year old cars with 800,000 miles on them?... They trade them in like clockwork to keep their fleet up... Go to an auction & buy one you can get one for probly like 1,200 3 years old...Might have a few miles but has been maintained...I would'nt be caught dead in a honda that's not a Mans vehicle thats a Womans car.

Cops use American-made cars because they're given incredible discounts. Foreign car companies are able to make their profits without offering such below-cost discounts.

Also with the exception of some traffic cops, police use American brands because they need heavier vehicles and suspension systems not offered by most foreign car companies.

Currently drive a 92 Chevy S10 that will roll over 200K within next couple months. I got it at 137K in January 2004 and have spent a total of about $2000 with the bulk of that being a complete brake job ($500); replacing the front end ball joints/control arms ($500) and an inline fuel pump ($300).

Thus, about $35 a month when prorated over the 60 months I've driven it.

Also have a Toyota Camry and formerly we had a Nissan Altima, both driven with great satisfaction and less than $500 a year in upkeep.

Next truck I buy will most likely be Nissan or Toyota.

Lexus is made by Toy-ota & thay are JUNK so if I were you I would think twice about a Lexus way overpriced & not worth the money...Congrats on you're S-10.. Boo on you're other foriegn..Did you say Camry? :lolBIG: Bet you feel like a real Man driving that Camry..I thought you were originally from Texas...Do they even allow Camrys in Texas? I can see you driving around with steer horns on the hood of your "Camry"... What do you do drag race kia's at the lite? :lolBIG: buy your shebar a Mustang a real Car for a lot less money & you'll be glad you did...You won't have a bit of trouble with it if you keep it up like any other car..Thank me later.

I got a Pathfinder myself(nissan) and have had little problems with it. I don't know, i guess foreign cars are more reliable and in the end reliable will win out.

Anyone know what the warranties are for the foreign cars compared to the American ones? might be another reason, better warranty with foreign car. dont know though.

My friends who drive Lexus models report the most consistently good performance and cost for upkeep of any vehicles I know.

And unlike some folks, I don't grade my manhood based on the size of my vehicle.

I'll leave that to you fellas who can't maintain a steady relationship with a woman.

Of course it's probably unmanly to spend about 2/3 less on gas then guys who roll in F-150s, but every time I check my bank balance, I somehow get over it.
