Is there a better alternative to Norton ?

Doug, you will probably need to do a complete system reformat/restore/recover to original factory settings to completely get rid of Norton.

I really hope your machine did not come with NORTON pre-installed because then even when you reformat NORTON will be there.

I really hope your machine did not come with NORTON pre-installed because then even when you reformat NORTON will be there.

Yes it was there, for like 30 days free.

HP laptop, about 3 years old, battery has been shot for about a year. PC can't be worth too much, so I'm willing to drop Norton for a free alternative.

I think I'll just can the Norton bill, and not do a system restore.... unless I need to in order to get the other one to work.

then there is nothing you can do to totally remove it, u can restore your PC and IMMEDIATLY uninstall it.

next time you buy a computer INSIST that there are no sample softwares installed on it as possible (you cant always do this when buying at best buy etc).

Problem is, even when you uninstall norton, it still remains in some fashion, infecting, slowing down and poisonng your PC.

You dont have to do system restore of course.

But you do have to go to ADD/REMOVE programs and uninstall norton before you install anything else.

Norton Internet Security
Your product will prompt you to manually renew your subscription the next time it expires.


I guess I'll worry about a replacement in a month, when it expires.

Switched to NOD 32 a couple of years ago. Highly recommended. It doesn't use near the resources that Norton does.
