is the treo 650 smartphone good for accessing the web and sportsbooks?

I have an interesting question about this phone? When you receive your monthly stmt, does it indicate anywhere what sites you have been using? Or does it depend on which provider you use?

no, it does not indicate the websites, it simply bills it as 'DATA'.....

in my case here in Canada it shows how many Kilobits you downloaded, & charges you accordingly....

why? you trying to dowload some porn?:hump: :lolBIG:

LOL. No, but thanks for the idea now. I decided I am going to get this phone. But was concerned in the event the significant other got a hold of the bill and saw the number of times I accessed Olympic and CRIS. Looking at the plans Cingular offers, they have 5MB, 10MB, 20MB or unlimited. From your experience, do you think 10 or 20 is enough in a month to place wagers and check scores once every 30 min?

I am not sure.....

You should ask CINCULAR if they can give you 2 Months of FREE unlimited DATA, so that you can develop a pattern of how much DATA you need.....

MANY BOOKIES (Carib, WWTS, CRIS & others) have a special application that you can download to your unit so that you can access their betting sites much quicker....

The thing is your GF may see those icons on your desktop of your treo, but there is probably ways to hide them into a special folder....

The names of the sites you visit, however, I doubt will appear on your bill, unless of course CINGULAR works different....

***** Do not forget, if you are buying the UNIT from EBAY & it is a GSM unit with SIM card, the unit must either be 'unlocked' or 'Branded to CINGULAR'.*****

I have had a Sidekick II for several months. It is great as a camera and for text messaging, phone, etc. - but I haven't had a lot of success on the net with it. I have a friend with a Treo and it seems to be a superior product.

To add some help to this thread...

I use my sidekick 2 to place bets. I use Pinny. I know some users say they get the 'session expired'' error message or something like that. I have the main Pinny page as my bookmark. I log in with no problem. Someitmes ill go to a different site and want to come back to pinny hoping I'm still logged in. (Just by hitting the back button) sometimes if I'm not away long ill still be logged on. But when I go back I always refresh the page (by going to the menu screen) to update the lines that always seem to change fast and to make sure I'm still logged in. This is when I get the 'session expired' or ' enable cookies' message. So all I do is go back to my bookmark, click on my Pinny link and it sends me back to the main page where I have to log in again.

I have no problem accessing this site or reading it even on a small screen. I personally turn off graphics so the page loads easier.

Its great for checking scores on ESPN mobile.

I'd highly recommend it. Let me know if you have more questions about the sidekick.

So I got the TREO last night and have been playing around with it. I am having problems with the internet. The connection is fine. But I think the pages are way too big that it does not fit. I went to espn.com and the page couldnt complete because of the size. I went to OLYMPIC and had the same problem. Is there something I can do? Can I somehow remove graphics and just have text?

I'm pretty curious about this thread, because I just ordered two TREO 650's yesterday from Sprint. Fry's Electronics here in Vegas charges $399 for a TREO, but Sprint charges $600. After some bitching to customer service, Sprint is sending the TREO's at a $415 charge each. Looking forward to getting it, I hear they have awesome graphics, great video camera features, and can even deodorize your farts in public settings. Sharky, you should get one.

The TREO is great. I have it setup to my business email so I can check without having to be in the office or at home. But I just can't figure the website part of it. There must be a way where I can just have text display from a web page as opposed to all the graphics.

In Superbowl's thread, he said he could turn off his graphics so the page loads faster. But I think he was referring to the Sidekick and not the TREO

Let me check with my cousin, who recommended the TREO to me. He seems to have all the features down-pat. I'll let you know if I find out anything useful.

I can log into pinny's home page without any difficulty....

after I enter my user name & password I geet the following error:

" you are currently attempting to access a web page that has an invalid security certificate (server name mismatch). Display the page anyway (yes) (no)"

I just ignore the error & click on "YES", & then, everything works fine. :digit:

I had the same ongoing error as you Drunk.. I deleted the cookies..Unchecked "allow cookies"..Then went back and re-enabled cookies. I also used FILEZ to delete a file called "WEB Cookies"

It now works fine so try those steps....
