Houston's Roger Clemens, the seven-time Cy Young award winner who's undecided whether he'll pitch this season, asked for a record $22 million for 2005 as 40 players exchanged arbitration figures Tuesday. The Astros offered $13.5.

Not sure of all the technicalities here, but this might just be his way of saying he's done. Knowing that he won't get it and then retiring.

I mean, last year he accepted just $5 mil because he wanted to pitch, now all of a sudden he wants a ton more. I doubt he needs to the money. Just a hunch that he's going to retire.

I'm prety sure Houston would not want to pay him $22 million to pitch next year, maybe not even $13.5m for a team that really doesn't appear to be a likely contender with or without Clemens.

How much more jerseys and tickets will he sell? I don't know, but he's probably not worth it. Can't rely on him to start game 1 of the playoffs after a shitload of rest. I wouldn't give a guy afraid to pitch on the road in the playoffs 22 million.
