...Or would you say a pitcher in baseball or goalie in hockey/soccer?

Or maybe a power hitting infielder?

1-QB
2-hockey goalie
3-baseball closer

1+2 are far ahead of 3.

This is a very underestimated position. A consistent closer ala Rivera gets you that back end protection for years.

But you need a good team for the closer to be a factor. Reds spent all of that money on Cordoba for 70 wins. Rare to see a stud QB or goalie on a poor team.

A QB represents one out of 22 starters, not even counting special teams. Even if he is twice as valuable as the next most important, that is still a small percentage

The number one option on a basketball team represents more than 20% of how the team does on the court

A qb could be worth 5 times the next valuable player on a football team. A qb like Brady can beat a 11-man defense by himself, or with the help or one other player. They are also the hardest to replace.

Also a QB touches the ball every single offensive set except for the occasional wildcat.

I am going to go with Hockey goalie #1, simply because a great goaltender can carry his team to a Cup.

Qb-2. A great qb is vital, but too many other factors imo.

Tom Brady is the perfect example

He was the same QB in 2006 as he was in 2007, the extra 200 points came from the differences in his teammates

Could any NBA team ever lose their best player for the entire year and still win more than two out of every three games?

I say yes, the QB is most important.

Intelligence, instincts, accuracy, arm strength, etc.........Just too may factors rolled into one that this one guy must have to make his team go....

It's dam near impossible to overcome a sucky QB. Even Dilfer & Brad Johnson were quality Qb's when their teams won with defense.
