Patriots WR Randy Moss gets 150th career TD; fourth to reach milestone

By Associated Press
4:49 PM CDT, September 19, 2010

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has become the fourth NFL player to reach 150 career touchdowns.

Moss made a jaw-dropping, one-handed 34-yard catch in the second quarter to give the Patriots a 14-7 lead to reach the milestone. He is only the second wide receiver to have at least 150 career scores. Moss has 149 receiving touchdowns and another on a punt return.

He trails only Jerry Rice (208), Emmitt Smith (175) and LaDainian Tomlinson (153).

After a 46-yard completion to Aaron Hernandez on third-and-10, Brady found Moss, who reached up, snagged the pass over his shoulder with his right hand — with Darrelle Revis trailing behind him — for the touchdown with 53 seconds left in the half.

Jerry Rice is the greatest football player of all time.
Randy Moss might be the 2nd best wide receiver ever.

No, the greatest ever of anything never quit on their team when the going gets tough. Moss quit on the Raiders because he's a crybaby.

Most talented WR to ever play in the NFL is Randy Moss.

OMT, Rice is the greatest over achiever we will ever see.
But he cant leap and make rediculous one hand grabs like Moss can.

You don't have to jump thru hoops, when you have a QB that throws dead into the hands of his receivers. So Jerry didn't have to do much except put his hands up and the ball was there.

Moss on the raiders still had 1,000 yards 1 season which isnt bad because raiders had major qb and offensive line issues. if you cant get the ball in the air then moss is useless.

moss is great at some one handed catch. i think you have to look at the game of football and the whole picture. moss never uses his hands to catch the ball, always catches it in his chest, and does the one handed grab way too much, as he misses several balls doing this. if moss is judged on just td catches and the one handed catch then maybe he is... but

moss is a horrible route runner, yes he is pay attention
moss takes plays off, its a fact
moss sucks at run blocking
moss never sacrafices his body for a catch
moss has great vertical speed, but is slow on cuts, the hitch dig in out and comeback he struggles with (he gets 80% of his grabs on the drag fade and bubble) even the slant gives him trouble
moss has never really been a go to wr on tuff yards, 3rd n 3-6, he is hardly a target in these situations

moss loves to shield his body and jump and catch with his body, never will you see moss extending his arms for a 2 handed catch. he makes a bunch of 1 handed grabs because thats all he does. watch yesterdays game and you will see 3 chances he had to make a grab but because he doesnt go to the ground and refuses to use 2 hands to make a catch he missed his chance at a completion. and note by his way of trying to catch a ball he will not register any drops, because he doesnt touch the damn ball..

a few wr in the game 2day better than moss
1. hines ward
2. steve smith
3. reggie wayne
4. brandon marshall
5. andre johnson

moss is a great tool to have and i like moss, but an overall wr in the nfl has to do many things good not just 1 thing. he does require more respect than any other wr in regards to the deep ball, as teams fear the big play.

take a close look at hines ward during an entire game, he is an incredible wr and in my opinion a top all time wr... yep i said it. many things he does are not correlated in the stat box as what many people use to justify good or great.

... before you cuss me out, think of this:

Brian Billick was an offensive GENIUS when he had Moss ... look at him now

Dante Culpepper was a great QB when he had Moss ... look at him now

Chad Pennigton was a great QB when he was at Marshall with Moss ... look at him now

Tom Brady was a good QB before he had Moss ... look at all the records he'll break now

Dennis Green was supposed to be a great coach when he had Moss ... look at how he did in Arizona

It can't just be a fluke ... Randy Moss makes every QB and every coach look better than they actually are ... and as soon as they don't have Moss, they don't look that great.

billick had some good weapons, smith reed carter and moss, with a good defense. he sucks as an off cor, moss didnt make billick good. they all did. plenty of coaches you can put in this category

same can be said of dante, dante gets hurt and plays for the fish and lions if thats what you mean by look at him now. teams had no talent really. maybe dante made moss, bc when moss went to oak he did jack shit for the most part, but come along a great team and good qb and moss is great aagain. so what is it? moss making a qb good, or a good qb making moss look good..

and chad was not great in in college, good... noodle arm chad was a smart player, he seemed to do just fine with the jets and fish on some offensive lacking teams so it seems to me maybe chad was a good qb without moss

brady, well brady is a good qb and moss helps him. reggie wayne or andre johnson would be helping him break whatever records you mite be assuming. i think wayne is a much better fit than moss for brady

and mr green, lol i dont even know what to say about that

This thead is a joke.

Rice holds virtually every record known to man..

Now this thread would be credible if it said "Who was better, Randy Moss, Don Hutson, or Steve Largent or Art Monk?"

The following players were or are better than Moss

LT
Night Train Lane
Walter Payton
Jerry Rice
Joe Montana
Dick Butkus
Mean Joe Green
Barry Sanders
Ronnie Lott
Bruce Smith
Mike Webster - better center than Moss is reciever
Jim Otto - see above
Jim Brown
Sammy Baugh

I'm getting tired.........................

Mike O'Hara joined the Detroit News in 1966 and covered the Detroit Lions for that paper from 1977-2008.* He's covered every sport during his 40-plus years in the business.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Assuming Randy Moss makes good on the retirement announcement he made through his agent on Monday, the debate on whether he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame shouldn’t last longer than 2.62 seconds.

That’s how long it takes to say "153 touchdown catches."

I have my facts right on both counts. The NFL’s record book documents the 153 TD catches Moss had with the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Vikings again and Titans.

The 2.62 seconds was documented in the press room of the Lions’ headquarters early Tuesday morning. That was a two-man operation. Chris McCosky of The Detroit News had the speaking role. I operated the stop watch. I’ll leave it to someone else’s judgment as to which one was the brains behind the operation.

I understand those who knock Moss for not giving maximum effort at all times. I also remember Jimmy Brown, the greatest running back in history, once saying it was “a regret” that he didn't block better.

Moss was not a perfect receiver. He wasn’t Jerry Rice, who maximized his ability, and then some. And he didn’t go over the middle often.

But his impact was undeniable. Every time he lined up, defenses had to shift to cover him.

Assuming, again, that his 13th season was his last, Moss’ career did not end well. He played for the Patriots, Vikings and Titans in 2010 and had 28 catches and five TDs in his 13th season.

Throw out 2010 and Moss had 148 TD catches for 12 seasons. That’s not worthy of the Hall of Fame? Be serious.

Any voter who denies the Hall of Fame for Moss because of the way he performed in his last season should study the history of the league. Not every great player goes out as a shining star.

John Unitas, my choice as the greatest quarterback in history, threw 10 TD passes against 22 interceptions in his last three seasons combined.

Deion Sanders, who is being inducted this weekend, retired after the 2000 season and returned in 2004 to play his last two seasons with the Ravens. He had five interceptions and was no longer a lock-down cornerback.

The Hall of Fame in any sport is about what a player did, not what he didn’t do.

I don’t think Moss’ retirement will stick. I think he’ll play again for a receiver-needy team that needs a TD-producing wide out.

But if Moss never plays again, or plays for 10 teams in 2011 without catching another pass, he has done more than enough to warrant making the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

I skimmed through this, someone said the 9ers were avg besides Rice/Montana? Are you kidding? There was no FA/salary cap then so they just pimped the league all day. They had pro bowlers all over the field in the 80s and early 90s. Everyone knows that

How can you be the best player ever when you're not even the best player at your own position?

I hear Moss is going to be a food critic with a specialty in BBQ.

Seriously, if I even start rating the best receivers ever, I have categories like "heart", "teammate" and "route-running". I can't just make this on stats alone. Stats-wise he's a freek, but adding in some of those other things and his history of silver-spoon entitlement tirades, he's not in my top five for wr. The game has changed a lot. How many TD's would Rice, Largent or Monk have with today's offenses? Those were receivers.

when comparing rice and moss cant forget who was throwing the ball. rice had montana and young. moss and culpepper worked out and he had brady for a few years. imagine if most of mosses career was with brady? his number would be much higher.

there is probably a few all time great receiver i would choose over moss. because of his off the field self, attitude, and heart but he is still the #2 all time receiver if you ask me.

I would say that Moss is without question the most talented WR ever. It's a shame he never realized all that talent.
