Is Pujols the greatest hitter ever?

This guy is amazing. Never goes into a slump. Hits for average. Hits for Power. Has a very high obp. Career averages are mind boggling. If he continues at this pace, is he the greatest hitter ever? Never had any kind of quality lineup around him either...

.334, 190 hits, .425 obp, 40 HR, 120 rbi's every year

he certainly has my vote.....amazing teams still pitch to him rather then just give up the intentional pass. Jerry Manuel was stupid enough to think rag arm Livan Hernandez would get him out w/his junk..He learned the hardway.

your a 100% right on about how often teams pitch to him and then pay for it. The talent around him is average at best, yet he's pitched to.

of course he needs to continue to put up these numbers for a few years, but up to this point in any players career, his resume is ridiculous....tough to compare players that are in eras that far apart. i know this, pujols hasn't had anyone around him in the lineup that was half as good as the guys in those yankee lineups. yankees were just so much more talented than all the other teams they faced

right???? Fat Al is one of the 2 or 3 best hitters in the last 30 yrs. No doubt about that. He has the "potential" to go down in history in the top 5 or so. Let's give him another 10 yrs. Wasn't it just last wk some were saying the same thing about Ramirez? And 2 yrs ago ARod? We haven't gotten into pre 1980.:think2:

You old school guys are amazing. Let's say that today's players get to play with fields that basicly have an oven mitt for their glove? How many MORE hits would a player like Albert get a season?

I mean those guys back in the old days got to hit against guys that threw 70 mph...fielders had NO range...and they wore an oversized winter glove for a mitt. I mean that damn glove didn't EVEN CLOSE UP AROUND THE BALL....you had to use your throwing hand to help with the catch. Not very many diving catches or running catches in the gap were made with those things.

Albert would hit 100 HRs with 250 RBIs if he played in those days. give me a break....no one back in the day would even make a college roster today much less play in the bigs.

Pujols avg. 9 yrs. 124r 200h 42HR 129RBI .334 avg.
Williams 19 yrs 127r 188h 37 HR 130 RBI .344 avg.

Bonds automatically wins any "best ever" argument - if hes allowed to be considered. Bonds even stole bases early in his career and won like 8 gold gloves.

Of course Ruth reached base 269 time. How close has the hitter in front of Pujols ever come to reaching that

To overtake Williams/Bonds/Ruth will take an aweful lot. It would be very cool if Pujols could do it, but still a very long way to go. Pujols is 1 000 games behind Williams, but Williams wasn't allowed to play in 1943, 44, 45, 52 and 53, yet he was still a great hitter and deserves credit for being one
