I think it was 1995 they stopped doing it, I think it was a decision that came from the fact that no one expected baseball to happen in the spring of that year so Barbary had moved on and then suddenly the settlement was made. Caesars picked it up that year and kept it two years, they needed to do something since their association with ITT meant no NBA or NHL action as ITT at the time also owned Madison Square Garden. The big caveat with that was Caesars didn't put up their numbers until about 9am when the whole town had already banged them around. Barbary came out at 8:30 like most competitors such as Mirage and MGM, after only 30 minutes of action at the Stardust.

Those were the good old days indeed. I remember standing around Barbary about 3:30 waiting to see who would play the games. You could spot the serious players or runners if they were betting with chips. No ID, no CTRs for just 3k back then, it truly was booking and betting as it should be. I remember somebody in the much maligned Gaming Today said that the beginning of the CTRs and the ID for anything over 3k would kill the action on baseball especially because a bet on Greg Maddux would often mean you had to show ID "just to win $1000". I believe that policy began in 96. Now you need ID and a note from your mother it seems to lay 3 dimes on a -300 favorite.

We can only hope that the bigger & better survive and the rogue books fall off the earth.
