All cities in the world have safe and dangerous places...Mexico City is no different.
Hell, Chicago is war zone in certain areas. Englewood, Austin, Garfield Park, Humboldt Part, South Shore to name a few. During 2014, there were 456 homicides in Chicago...most in the areas mentioned. 2619 people were shot...that's a person shot every 3 hours and 19 seconds. Chicago has a 20% increase in murders this year (Jan/Feb) over last year.
Is Chicago safe??? At least Mexico City has one of the highest police officer to resident ratios in the world...one every 100 citizens.

Rule of thumb in Mexico, if you are in a place where few people are, you are in trouble.
I was in a coastal city once, didn't trust it for a second although it was a tourist city.... Ended up at a Mexican's house. Strongest coke I have ever witnessed. He was nice, but I was prepared for the worse. Never been to Mexico City, but have been to alot of tourist parts. My words of wisdom for those who can't defend themselves "don't go off the beaten path". That when the trouble happens. My guess is Mexico City resembles New York. Probably nice places and then 10 miles down the road, you are on skid row.

I went 4 years ago, very nice place, great prices, superb food... Only time I got food poisoned was from a motel meal... Is safe, relatively safe, but then again I was with a local most opf the time.
I got coke 3 times, one from a cab driver (trusted him with the $), then from a guy outside a bar I casually asked him if he knew where to get some, took me to a friends house and they had at least 10 different flavors of coke... last time I got into a cab and had him get me to the ghetto... witnessed a killing but got 4 grams and made it safe to the motel... wouldnt recommend doing that tho

one of the most nortorious gangs come from mexico and they are nobody to fool with.they are everywhere and don't care about anybody or anything.MS-13 is dangerous as can be and control up to 42 states that is known of.i myself would not step foot into mexico but then again they are everywhere so it all depends on how you feel about it.
