Jeter without a doubt has lost a step but The Yanks would be hard pressed coming up with an improvement at SS right now. Getting old YES - washed up - NO.

He'll wind up .280 or better.
He looked 25 years ago again today, he had a solid road trip.

I wish Zit would do more of these Yankee hating threads.
Last year in in the beginning of May he did a Teixeria thread, and he wound up almost winning the MVP.

Yankee hating? I explicitly said in the 2nd post in this thread that
Jeter is one of the few Yanks I like and respect.

A year an a half ago I took my two boys to their first baseball game, Red Sox vs. Yanks at Fenway.

Sabathia vs. Beckett

Jeter hit the first pitch of the game out of the park.

I told my boys that they should remember that moment because they were looking at a for sure future Hall of Famer.

That was his 2700th hit:

I had to buy tickets from scalpers at the last moment for that sold out game, by far the most I've ever paid for tickets, $125 each, for 3.

Moves to 26 on the all time hit list:

Derek Jeter got two hits and matched Al Kaline for 26th place on baseball’s career list. Jeter singled in the ninth for hit No. 3,007.

Jeter passes Carew, ties Rickey on hits list

By*Bryan Hoch*/*MLB.com

NEW YORK -- With a hit in each of his first two at-bats during the Yankees' 6-4 loss to the A's in 10 innings on Wednesday, Derek Jeter associated himself with a pair of Hall of Famers.
Jeter's infield single in the first inning moved him past Rod Carew for sole possession of 22nd place on baseball's all-time hits list with 3,054, and the Yankees captain's RBI liner to center field in the third pulled him even with Rickey Henderson.

"Any time you have your name next to those guys in anything, it's an honor, but I'm not thinking about that," Jeter said after the game.

Jeter tied Carew with a 3-for-3 performance in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to Oakland, and he passed the Hall of Fame infielder by legging out a ball hit to second base off righty Trevor Cahill.

As Jeter was approaching his 3,000th hit, Carew said that he has cheered for the Yankees captain from afar for some time.

"I'm a Derek Jeter fan," Carew said. "I've watched this young man play since Day 1. I've always enjoyed the way he has played the game. When you go out there every day and you're consistent, good things happen. That's what has happened to Derek over the years as a hitter in the big leagues. He's been a consistent player, a consistent hitter."

Henderson, who enjoyed a 25-year big league career, logged 513 of his 3,055 hits with the Yankees from 1985-89.

Since coming off the disabled list on July 4, Jeter has batted .339, reaching base at a .392 clip and slugging .461. He has collected more extra-base hits (14) and RBIs (25) over 40 games than he had in the previous 62.

Not yet...

6-3-12:

Jeter had two hits, and his homer gave him his 1,799th run, tying him with Ted Williams for 17th on the career list.

He's one of the few Yankees having a great season.

Only Jeter and Granderson are really having good to great seasons as far as position players go. Maybe give Cano, A-Rod,Ibanez, and Swisher passing grades of like a "C"...but not value for what they get paid.

The Catcher ( Martin)

can't hit .200

I remember back when catchers could hit....like Munson.

Jeter didn't play Saturday so saying consecutive games is not accurate the 39 year old is HOF but also should've put the spikes in the closet and just retired. As most though, he needs one more standing ovation.......... and a few more bucks!

Read post 7 from 2011..........

Jeter Makes History, But Yankees Lose

Baseball Tonight Spotlight: Derek Jeter moved into sixth place on the all-time hits list, but the Yankees fall to the Indians 3-0.Tags: MLB, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, Derek Jeter

NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter doesn't amaze easily, but when he thinks about passing Honus Wagner and moving into sixth place on the all-time hits list, it has an impact.

Brief comparison of Honus Wagner and Derek Jeter in crucial categories. Note: Wagner played only 68 percent of his career games at short. Jeter has never played a position other than short (except DH on 62 occasions).

<!-- end inline 1 -->Jeter's 3,431st hit of his career came in the sixth inning Saturday on a soft single that charging Cleveland Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall could not pick up with his bare hand.
"It is one of those 'wow' moments," Jeter said after the New York Yankees' 3-0 loss. "It's something I'm extremely proud of. Obviously, I would've liked to have won the game, but it's something I'll be able to tell my kids one day."
Jeter, 40, announced his retirement prior to the season. He has never played any position other than shortstop. Now, he has more hits than anyone who has ever appeared at the position.
"Honus Wagner, he is the last one on the list who has played shortstop," Jeter said. "That one hits home a little bit. Anytime you pass guys that have had the careers that they've had, it is kind of overwhelming."
Following the hit, the crowd gave Jeter a standing ovation as the ball was retrieved. Jeter said he doesn't know yet what he'll do with the ball.

Jeter tied Wagner with a grounder to short the throw beat him to first and the official scorer called it a hit, the next day Jeter hits a swinging bunt that doesn't reach the shortstop & he beats it out. I wonder if Wagner got many hits like Jeter's historic last hits. Jeter
rarely squares the ball up.

Williams in 1941 had just three infield hits. Half of Jeter's hits seem to be infield hits.

He must be the luckiest player in history rarely squaring up the ball and managing to be a .311 career hitter with only 5 players in history with more hits. Amazing!!
