InSpades:
I live in the SF Bay Area and follow the Giants very closely and know them very well as I see almost every game. Schmidt following his first two starts after suffering his groin injury, although pronounced 100%, was definitely pitching tentatively and not following completely through with his pitches and therefore was hit hard. His third and most recent start, he started out tentatively once again and fell behind 2-0, but when the Giants gave him a 5-2 lead, he relaxed and was finishing off all his pitches as he had done prior to his injury. Even Mike Krukow, the Giants color commentator noticed the change during the game and mentioned it as well. In my opinion, he is fully healthy and with the Giants, not only leading in the Wild Card chase, but now currently only 2.5 games behind the Dodgers for the Division, expect Schmidt to perform well tomorrow.
Futhermore, the Giants entire starting pitching staff is now definitely picked it up a notch. Schmidt, Reuter, Lowry, Tomko, and Hennessey are all pitching solid. Lowry has a tough assignment tonight as Peavy has always been tough on the Giants.
Certainly not implying that the Giants will definitely win as the Padres come off taking 3 of 4 from the Dodgers, but SBC Park will be electric with Bonds sitting at 699 and the division and wild card races up for grabs. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
By the way, Fair Warning is on the money as Tomko and Lowry have both been superb as of late.
Best of luck to you.
