I will have roughly $75 in materials for this cake and at least 10 hours labor( I charge $75 an hour. So my figure I gave him is resonable, but in no way am i gouging him.

Whats he going todo go home and tell the wife the wedding is off becuase his cheap ass would spend the extra $61 dollars n a cake. I wouldn't compare this to the 21 cent I spent on the pizza because you offer a custom service. Unlike the pizza biz their is not a barkery on every corner. Tell him you will do it smaller for $800 or for $861 for the larger size. People think the mark up in everything is so high. I have items I sell for $350 and the mark up may only be $35 but then again I hae items I sell for $100 and the mark up might be $75.

I'm not that desperate.

Now, if it was a typical wedding, I may budge a bit, but this is a custom cake, can't do it on this. It wouldn't kill me if he said, nah, lets just do a regular cake.

These cakes take time, but they make GOOD money.

The guy is being extremely cheap over 61 bucks but you can't fault him for trying to get a better deal. I just got $500 knocked off my interior painting quote for my house this week by asking. A lot of people out there are desperate for work and a lot of people are trying to cut back a bit. Soon enough it'll turn around.

You just answered your question. I agree with Billhill too. If it were a regular customer, it might be different also. When I played weddings, I had almost 100% referrals. I would give a better price to them, plus they almost had the receptions close to me and I knew the crowd going in.

What I would do is split the difference on the Taj.

As far as other people go that you know are going to ask for discounts, when they ask you how much it's going to cost, just mark it up so when you give them the discount which YOU will offer, it brings it down to the "right" price.

So it would now be like this. " You know Larry, I normally get $115 for this cake. However, since you're a buddy of mine, I'm going to give it to you for $100." This way he doesn't feel nervous asking you for a discount, and you've done him a big favor by giving him a "discount" without him having to ask. People like that shit.

Why go to work and not make any money?? When people try to get me to lower my prices I just politely tell them thats my best deal and if they want to use me then call me. No point working when I can sit at home and make the same thing!

Do you cheater? Is the cost to make a 100lb cheesecake low?

I didn't read the whole thread, and didn't see you mention Cheese cake in your original post. Yes, cheese cake is another story obviously. I was talking cake ingrediants in general. Not sure how ornate your cakes are aka: spun sugar, gold leafing, chocolate etc etc can be expensive and time consuming. I was speaking in general that your cost must be lower with cakes vs, say a restaurant.

Can U take a pic of the cake and post it? or some pics of cakes you've done? Would love to see.

I would tell the guy to go fuck himself if he's gonna nickel and dime over $61.

Hell No. Fuck em, if he wants you're cake he'll pay. Don't lower the price. Tell him you miscalculated and its now 126.00.

Spite is a beautiful thing. What, does this guy think he's buying a car, shopping at a flea market?

sometimes like I tell my accounts---------you just have to fire a customer.

Hold you're price unless you want to work for free. This guy gets a break, guess what? he'll tell all his friends what a great deal he got. they'll all expect the same.

You should charge hin a 50% BITCH, MOAN AND COMPLAIN TAX.

ask him if he ever got 60.00 off someone else cake.

ONE FUCKING THING I CAN"T STAND IS CHEAP FUCKING PEOPLE.

Tell him you'll let him work the rest off cleaning up in the kitchen.

Allright --------I'm done
