Is it worth renting a car in Vegas?

The last two times I went we didn't really leave the strip and it wasn't as hot as it is now. We will be going downtown this time. Do you guys recommend having a car? Do the hotels charge for parking?

No reason. Only if you want to drive out and see the dam. That's the only place you would take a car.

I don't know how you can go to Vegas and NOT a rent a car in the summer! Car rental rates are cheap and you will spend more on cabs not counting the sweat time. Parking is free all the majors have lots. Trust me when it's 110 degrees out and you go in your car and turn on the AC you willo be happy you did.

The Binion's parking garage will give you four free hours of parking; all you do is take the ticket when you drive in and go to the cashier's cage and get it stamped (validated). When you leave you just hand it to the attendant. Don't park in the Fremont Street parking garage (this is a different one than Binion's): it says free but the pieces of shit will want you to spend money in the gift shop in order to get "free" parking and you won't find that out until you've already parked. Also, the Main Street Station parking lot charges $2 and gives you a voucher which can be redeemed for $2 cash inside the casino.

I definitely think it's worth it. I like to hop around to different poker rooms to find the best games. With a rental, I don't have to wait around for a cab. A car rental is like what $20-30 bucks a day? You'll spend more than that on cab plus tip. Why not have the luxury of your own ride?

Cab rides have the potential to take forever on a Fri. or Sat. night. About a month ago it took me 25 minutes to drive from LV Blvd/Fremont St. to the Circus Circus, which is about a mile.

Just use Industrial between Charleston and Caesars and you're OK. Renting a car gives you flexability since you can always jump in a cab if drinking or just want to run out the front to another spot for an hour or so. Take a ride out to Green Valley Ranch as well in Henderson or up to the Suncoast in Summerlin in a rental.

Highly recommend it, the price is right. When we were out for Arena Bowl, one guy thought we did not need it and frankly it saved us much in cab fare. I do it every time I go there now but I go many places off the strip or downtown.

I'm going to Vegas tomorrow and always rent a car when I'm there. Just like some of the other posters said....it's cheap and makes it so much easier to get around. You can self park at any casino on the strip or use the valet (which is what I do). Hey, there's no charge for valet parking and you just give the guy $2 and away you go (what could be better). You drop yourself off in front of the casino and you're in the air conditioning in seconds. It's gonna be 105 degrees all this week! Lord knows I don't want to be sitting out waiting for a monorail and cab rides can get expensive. On top of that, you do need to go back and forth from the airport so you're going to pay for that anyway. I got a midsize for $21 a day (tax included). You can't beat that and I'll have the flexibility to go out to different casinos and go to different restaurants which is what I like. Are you telling me you wouldn't want to check out Wynn's place or maybe get a buffet at the Rio (one of the best in my opinion). Rent the car, it'll be worth it.

Parking is free in Las Vegas,they want you on their lot and in the casino. From May to September always try to park in a multi-storey covered parkade.

It depends ! If you're going to make it a 5-day drunk and go from casino to casino, a car isn't advisable. Take the city bus ! You don't want to defend an out-of-state DUI ! No car needed if you're going casino hopping as most first-time visitors do.

I'd can the car unless you plan to go to MT. Charleston, Hoover Dam, Reno, Lake Mead, etc.

Vegas has decent mass-transit. Buses are tough to a stranger but run regularly. esp. on the strip. The transit center near GN will get you around the city.

Don't get drunk and drive around an alien city ! You'll be asking for trouble.

Industrial is one of the best kept secrets in Vegas.I always rent a car,can't imagine being without one.

agree and disagree. 120 degrees is way low in a car, more like 160. Did you ever leave a keno crayon on your dashboard ?

If you only want to go between the strip and downtown, forget the car, for sure ! You won't need it, much easier to just move your body. Way easier to hop the bus. Employees of places like Mirage do that

if you are going to stay on the strip and play on the strip only, I guess a cab is OK. But I generally don't stay on strip (lousy video poker, inflated room prices) and generally rent a car. It is soooo much more convenient and, even with high gas prices, less expensive than taking cabs all over town. The Monorail is unreliable, don't even think about it...


And yes, Industrial and F. Sinatra Blvd are great ways to move around and avoid strip traffice. Gotta love industrial...gateway to the strip clubs!:lolBIG:
