On my last trip to Vegas I sat down at the $25 table for the first time. Cashed in with $350. After sitting for an hour and a half I was able to cash out at $1000! (First time I ever had an orange chip).

What I found was

  • When your cards are good and you can get your runs going, its easier to lay down $75 - $100 bets therefor winning more each time. Double downs and splits are more profitable.
  • You don't have morons sitting at the table splitting tens or hitting 14's vs. dealer 16's.

Conversely, you can't lay back as much when the cards suck therefore it seems it would only be worth it if your playing with a larger bankroll.

On an interesting note, I took me while to get to the 1K mark. I was screaming getting to $700 winning a few double downs on $100 bets and trying to stay consistent with $50 bets. But after the $700 mark..I'd try to go for the gusto and play $200 hands to make the quick bump to $1000. I'd lose some win some and hover around the 700 mark for a while. I layed back and played the 25's as I caught the majority of a weak shoe. Once I caught a nice streak towards the end I went back to the black chips and hit the 1k mark within 3 hands.

I guess the point I'm making is it's the first time I ever won 1K at any sitting. So I'm asking...."Are your chances more profitable when playing at the $25 tables as opposed to the 5 and 10's?" Obviously $100 cash in wouldn't last very long if the cards suck. Is there a minimum cash in that gives you a greater chance?

Opinions please.

Thanks

i always play at the $25-$50 tables because i try to always avoid those idiots that do that sh*t but you can't always avoid them because they seem to always wind up at the same table i'm playing at all the time it never fails.

3peet,

when you lose your bet when the whole table plays basic strategy, it doesn't seem all THAT bad.

However, when you lose your bet when someone goes against basic strategy, it always seems like 'WHY ME?'. It feels 10 times worse. Especially if they had played Basic strategy you would have won the hand.

Unless you are counting cards, what the player before you does shouldn't alter the outcome of the hand or your strategies. Its 'the feeling' that is altered.

Swoop, in poker alot of times you are playing against alot of other 'MINDS'. So poker is not for the weak of mind. Blackjack you are playing against 'rules/standards/computers/math'

Its not only worse for you to play at $25 minimum tables, it worse for all players.
The Casinos would love for everyone to play at higher minimum stakes tables because you are throwing out your counting advantage the less you can vary your stake. The Casinos would love to have tables with minimums of $100 and maximums of $200. That way almost nobody wins...

Stick to $5 minimum tables with high max bet. Also, don't worry about how other players play there hands, it has no long term affect on wether you win or lose...

yeah agree cecil, it doesnt matter how anyone else plays. And I too play at the $5 or $10($5 is way too crowded and hard to get into a lot of times though at Caesars in New Albany. My new system is a pyramid, 1-3-5-8-13, those are units, try to win 5 in a row then start back. It took me a while to come up with this and it was going great in trials, the killer on this is win one, lose one, win one, lose one, etc. Need Streaks-be it good or bad, a bad streak is fine if followed by a good streak. First time there with this method, cashed in $500. was running bad as I was going it was going win one, lose one, down about $200. Then got 2 3s against a 5, ended up splitting or doubling down 5 times to have $400 out there. He turned over the 10 to give him 15, then flopped the 5 for 20, swept my $400. Sucked. I pretty much only play hold em though. 5/10
