Is it appropriate for book owners to post here under names that they do not want related to their book, but yet want to blast other books using it?

Thanks

I think it's appropriate at times. There are times when an owner is NOT representing his book. He may just be enjoying The RX.

If it's to shill, or bash...absolutely not.

yes -- everyone is entitled to anonymity. is it nice to blast other books ?? no, but some posters do it and one can always try to judge whether the blasts are justified or not.

as one can register easily and mask IP's i doubt you can stop it so why worry about it.

Make a rule against it, if a book representative ignors it, at least he will have to hide his agenda

I don't see anything wrong with it. If a guy like that tries to bash a proven solid book, he will soon realize that it is he who will get the bashing. Truth has a way of coming out on these forums, so let people use whatever methods they want. My bet is they won't succeed.

If it is a topic that is directly related to their book, for example:

Poster claims book is a cheat. Owner posts under different name and touts book as most reliable book on Earth.

This is unethical. I think most of the classic books that robbed and went under used this approach.

If a book uses the forum to slam a competing book, it should be out in the open with the poster's affilliation clearly spelled out. Books shouldn't shill but when they get caught, they should be held accountable regarding their integrity.

An honest book (oxymoron like military intelligence) should be able to survive on the truth. I'd rather be with a book that admitted to the occasional mistake, rather than one that tried cover-ups and lies.

JJ - to answer your question, scroll back up and look at the names of those who took the time to respond - obviously, they cared at least enough to discuss it.

The worst reply I can ever see in a forum are 'who cares?', which implies the posters are kind of dumb for worrying about whatever the topic is. Far better to post 'I personally don't care', which doesn't insult anyone, even if unintentional.

At least Miss Manners said so, JJ - I know you read her religiously.
