Is is dangerous to sleep at a rest stop?

I'm making the 25 hour drive to Vegas for a two week vacation/job search. Love road trips, and it will save me some money, since I won't have to rent a car while I'm there. Was thinking about leaving at 6am Sat and driving all day, and planning on sleeping in my car. Is is very dangerous to sleep at night at a rest stop? Should I just get a hotel?

I have done it before in the past. It is a risk/reward that only you can determine. Very small chance of something bad happening but depending on finances may not be worth the risk. No right or wrong answer here.

I have slept in my car NUMEROUS times on road trips across the country for a quick 2-3 hour snooze.

Yes, but I could rough it. Depends on the cost. Part of me says just fly and spend the money on a rental car. Might still do that.

Why?

Carry some deoderant and after shave and that is all you need.........one is only going to be bedding down for 3-4 hours and paying $69 for a hotel is not worth it.

figure out where you are going to be on a certain night and go to priceline and bid $35 for a room. too many wacos out there today. remember, those two snipers were caught at rest stop.

with the cost of gas and the wear and tear on the car, a plane ticket can be had pretty cheap and would just be marginally more expensive. if your going to drive, rest areas are not too bad if you pick the right one to stop at. i have slept at them a few times but i deliberately stopped at about 7 am and slept for 2-3 hours. the crazies go away when the sun comes up.

I like to drive, but I think I'm just gonna fly. I've been waiting, cause I couldn't decide, but I can still get a ticket for $260 round trip with free parking, and the rental car is only going to be about $200.

spend the 39 bucks on a hotel..

2 things can happen when sleeping at a rest stop and 1 of them is very bad..

not worth it..

rest stops seem like a bizarre place to rob someone to me, but it happens. I wouldnt call them "unsafe" but I would not call them " safe" either

just put your gun on your hip for all to see when you are out of your vehicle using the facilities. Otherwise someone will have to bust your windows out to get to you

a .357 makes for a good night sleep - just set in on your lap while sleeping in the car
save your hotel money for good hollow points
