As stated earlier, East St. Louis is just on the other side of the Mississippi across from St. Louis. It's the area to go to when the bars close down at 1:30 a.m. because the bars in Illinois will stay open until 5:00 a.m. and most are strip clubs, casinos, and dingy taverns. Most people with money in St. Louis are like others in cities, they live in the outgoing suburbs and go downtown for things like sporting events, bar hopping or go East Side (East St. Louis) for casinos or late night partying. East St. Louis is like St. Louis and most cities. Enjoy the city during the day and get out by sundown! Except there not much to enjoy about East St. Louis even in the day!

Wife and I drove through Stl (on the Thruway) she See's a sign about casino's and says let's go gamble a little, I tell her you have no clue about Stl? HELLO?

So I get off the thruway just to make her happy. Two seconds later I godda piss, we pull into a KFC 2 seconds from the Arch. I walk in and there's a huge solid bullet proof wall separating the workers from the customers with just a tiny window at the bottom to hand food out and exchange money just like a bank.. Needless to say we didn't hit no casino's and I tied my dick in a knot and pissed at the exit several miles down the road.

Stay the hell away from East St. Louis. You stand little chance of just driving through that city alive if you are white.

Was right off the thruway, was about 6 years ago, we could see the arch very close, not sure if that's downtown or not? We seen signs for casino's so we got off the next exit.. Not a very good area of town when you have a glass wall seperating you at KFC.

I never realized STL was that bad. I was surprised to see them #2 on the crime list. I guess all the Cards fans must be from somewhere else because all I ever see are white people in the stands.

The arch is downtown...near Busch and the Rams stadium, can't think of the name. Very nice downtown. Go away from there I have no idea what's good and bad except for the touristy stuff. I hate all big cities.

How the hell did D.C. & N.O. not make this list? Seems like people are getting rob, killed and murdered everyday in both.

Well, DC is such a large city its crimes per citizen rate gets skewed downward. Same thing happens to places like LA, Chi, and NYC.

If a couple people get murdered in a city such as Youngstown, Ohio its weighed as if a few hundred were murdered in a place like NYC.

I dont know how New Orleans didnt make the list.

Agree with turfauthority about estl making the list if it included cities 75k and less.

Many smaller cities in deep south are also riddled with crime but dont make these lists for they are less than 100k people.

Leon Spinks is from the ghettos of St Louis. Fond memories of Leon!

76 Gold medal over a superb Cuban with a 3rd round flurry that was beautiful. He then beat Ali after 7 pro fights. Not too bad for Leon or his brother Michael who also won Gold and became a champ.

Worse places

Flint, Michigan
Richmond, California
Richmond, Virgina
San Bernadino, Califronia
Little Rock, Arkansas
Birmingham, Alabama
Newark, New Jersey
Hollonbeck divison, LosAngelos,Ca

Overrated crime spots

Harlem,Ny
Compton,Ca

I'm surprised Camden NJ is not on this list.
And correct, Harlem has been rejuvinated, and is kind of cool.
119-130 or so streets are OK.
Don't go to say 144th and 7th at 3am, you'll be asking for trouble.
Metro North added a major station at 125, mostly black businessmen use it.

I changed my mind, East St Louis is the most dangerous place in the world, why would anyone live within 100 miles of this place?
