By the Big 12, of all people. It seems that the Big 12 has abandoned it's claim that they "decide their champions on the field". The Big 12, in what is an obvious desperate attempt to get ANY Big 12 team into the playoffs, has decided not to declare a Big 12 Champion if both Baylor and TCU win on Saturday. Tis is a desperate attempt to get ANY Big 12 team into the Playoffs. Now if both win on Saturday and neither Baylor or TCU get selected (we can only hope and pray), then and onlyu then will the Big 12 declare a Conference Champion, which would be Baylor because they defeated TCU.

Once again the Big 12 has shown why they are the worst Conference in the NCAA. All season they boast about how their champion will be decided on the field, and then they chicken out because there is a good chance that the committee will not pick Baylor, a team that plays a total chicken s**t non-con schedule and will continue to do so. If Ohio State defeats Wisconsin in the Big 10 CC game, and 'Bama, FSU, and Oregon all win their games, that should be your 4 teams in the Playoffs. Not a team that was conviently given a helping hand by a two faced conference that changed their rules at the last second in a desperate move to get a spot in the playoffs. In reality, it probably matters not, because neither Baylor or TCU have a chance against Alabama, but it would be nice to see the phony Big 12 put in it's place. It is no wonder why Texas was allowed to ride rough-shot over this conference for years.

Actually the way the Big 12 does it, they don't break ties. If 2 teams finish tied in league play, they call it a shared title. It happened 2 years ago when KSU and OU both went 8-1 in conference play, KSU won at OU, but both still got a share of the Big 12 title.

Conventional wisdom would tell you the head-to-head breaks the tie, but in a true round robin it doesn't. Admittedly, I don't know exactly what you're talking about when you say the Big 12 won't declare a champion, I'm just pointing out how it works in a true round robin.

You call the Big 12 the worst conference in the NCAA, and that's fine, you have your opinion. But as circumstances change, why wouldn't they want someone in the playoff? I would wait too (whatever you're talking about) if it meant getting someone in, wouldn't you? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

What I am saying is that the Big 12 promotes it's conference (the ONLY conference that does not have a CC game) by claiming that their championship is decided on the field. Then it does an about face when the chips are down and refuses to crown a champion. As far as I am concerned, Baylor won the championship on the field over TCU. That is the way it should be. Even better yet. Why not just pick up two teams and make this a legitimate conference with a CC game?

I'm not sure it's a foregone conclusion Baylor will beat KSU this weekend. Might be putting the cart before the horse a bit with this tie-breaker/crown a champion talk, but for the sake of argument I understand we can make that assumption.

To defend the Big 12 a bit... in a true round robin, you no longer have the excuse that scheduling was favorable and therefore played a factor in determining a champion. So really, you ARE determining it on the field. For example, Missouri is playing in the SEC championship game. They got thumped by the only other team worth a damn in the East, and otherwise had a very favorable schedule. Didn't have to face Bama, Auburn, either Miss school, or LSU from the West. The combined record for the conference opponents that they beat? 17-39. Now all they have to do is pull off one win and they are crowned as SEC champs? There is something fundamentally wrong with that system as well, but this is just one man's opinion.

I don't feel that a lack of a CC game makes the Big 12 an illegitimate conference. Every team plays 9 conference games. In other conferences, you only play 8, and you don't play everyone. You could say there are pros and cons to both, sure. But it's still a power conference. I don't know that we will get anywhere on this, so I'll just agree to disagree.

I think although it is not part of the process, the committee is sneaking a peak at the BCS formula and Baylor strength wise flounders badly.

And this is all they are looking at. The Big 12 could declare any team it;s champion, but it's the wins and SOS that it comes down to. BigDaddy just has a bitter beer face today for some reason and wants to stir up trouble. He's not going to find it here. I don't like the way the Big 12 does things either. But it has nothing to do with what the playoff committee is watching in the film room between Baylor and TCU. And the decision they will make when the smoke has cleared.
