The Rangers will send Derek Holland to the hill tonight and hope he can help the team end its struggles. Holland, however, has had issues of his own and is just 1-4 with a 6.23 earned run average in seven starts this season.
The rookie left-hander, who has never faced Minnesota, is making his first start since July 4 following three appearances in relief. He is just 2-4 with an 8.38 ERA in eight appearances (4 starts) at home this season.
Francisco Liriano will get the call for Minnesota tonight and is trying to avoid an AL-worst 10th loss on the year. In his last start on July 9, Liriano was reached for six runs - three earned - and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 6-4 loss to the Yankees. It was his first defeat in nearly a month.

Scouting Report:
Twins: Prior to earning the loss against New York, Liriano had seen improvement in his last two starts -- games in which he pitched seven innings each. But the lefty's progression seemed to take a step backwards against the Yankees, as he lasted 5 1/3 innings and allowed six hits (although only three were earned). As he has been prone to do, Liriano let one inning change the course of the game, as Minnesota couldn't dig out of a three-run deficit when New York scored three times in the second inning. He also surpassed the 100-pitch count for the fourth time in five starts. Liriano is 1-0 in one career start (three games total) against Texas.
Rangers: Holland is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in his last six appearances, including three starts. He is 1-4 with a 6.23 ERA in seven starts this season and 2-1 with a 5.48 ERA in 12 relief appearances. The Rangers prefer him in the bullpen but he is going to stay in the rotation for the next couple of weeks while the club looks to add a starting pitcher by trade. This will be his first appearance against the Twins.
Liriano gave up six runs (three earned) over 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and two walks in Thursday's loss to the Yankees. His record fell to 4-9.
Liriano labored through his outing by allowing nine baserunners. An error on a potential double play limited the damage to three earned runs for fantasy owners. Liriano remains an enigma after the first half since he's healthy and at times can resemble his top 2008 form, but he always seems to fall apart with runners on base. He may be a buy-low candidate for the second half, but we'll need to see improved control before we get too excited.
