On Espn right now, they're discussing Michael Irvin's chances of getting into the Hall of Fame. One of the guys said Irvin was the leader the '90's Cowboys, not Emmet or Aikman. I disagree. Too me it was Emmet.

There are definitely more qualified players who will never get in....but, he also won 3 Super Bowls, and that will carry a lot of weight.

Career Notes

1996
Suspended for the first five games by the NFL for violation of the league's substance abuse policy... Yet in only 11 games Irvin returned to catch 64 balls for 962 yards and added to his Cowboy records of receptions and recieving yards... He also had three 100-yard games out of the 11 he started in '96

11 straight 100 yard games now that is impressive!

1995
His 11 straight games topping the 100 yards receiving mark established a new NFL record previously held by Charley Hennigan in 1961 ... Fifth in the NFL with 111 receptions and fourth in the league with 1,603 yards ... 88 of his 111 catches were for first downs ... Tied a team record by leading the team in receptions for his fifth consecutive season ... Caught seven passes for 100 yards and two first quarter TDs on Jan. 14 vs. Green Bay. It marked his fifth 100-yard receiving day in postseason play to tie him for the second most in NFL history (Jerry Rice is the all-time leader with seven) ... Selected to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl, the most ever by a Dallas WR.

Jimmy Hoffa said:
Pete Rose had a nice run too.

In the end, character kept him out.

But apparently, the N.F.L. voters are supposed to just crunch the numbers and not care about character. I guess I would say he's borderline, but I think he gets in, eventually.

Its impossible to compare older receivers like Cliff Branch (who is not in) with a guy like Irvin...game is totally different now.

Michael Irvin should be happy he was ever on the same field as Jerry Rice. Irvin should not make the hall. Jerry should be in the hall immediately, they should wave the waiting period for the greatest player in the history of the game.

Character is one thing, but a previously convicted cokehead getting busted once again with a crackpipe is more along the lines (pun intended) of a public image that is just flat out so destroyed right now, they can't even think about it.
