First, contact your senator. Write letters and emails. Not just one, write many many emails until this thing gets voted on. I know these politicians are paid off most of the time, but you would be shocked how a large influx of mail can sway a vote.

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Second, join the poker players alliance. Even if you aren't a poker player they are lobbying against this bill. They have been doing some good work so far and their efforts will help all offshore gamblers.

Third, contact your local editor. Poker players alliance can help you find a list of local media to contact. The more negative attention this gets the more reluctant senators will be to sign off on it.

If people can come up with other ways to help the cause feel free to add to this list. I will be posting as much info as i can come up with in this thread to help those people who are willing to help themselves.

Fourth, be ready to donate some funds to help pay for lawyers and legal fees to get this tied up in court and overturned if it is signed into law.

Fuck them, all we have to do is bet by phone and western union cash.

Who are they fooling as most degenerate gamblers aren;t even registered to vote.

This is like the democrats trying to raise the minimum wage and the republicans shoot it down.

Then the democrats say,hey we tried looking out for the little guy all the time knowing it was friutless!

Here is one more suggestion.

Even if the Kyl bill does not pass the senate this, there is a chance that they try to reintroduce it again next time around. Kyl will be facing stiff competition in Arizona from Jim Pederson in the coming election. It can't hurt to throw some support for Democrat Jim Pederson, one way or the other.

I am currently trying to find out his position on this issue.

Don't give any money to these guys. At first I thought it was good to have them around, but with friends like this who needs enemies? Their leadership is no better than the asswipes in the racing industry. They aren't for freedom to gamble online, they are for freedom to play poker online. If this bill exempted poker they would be as staunch a group of supporters as the horse people are. They would love nothing more than to have an enforced law that leads more people into playing poker. In fact some of the highest profile poker players have said as much. They don't like the complications of having to defend sports bettors or slot players. That may sound nice, but come on we are all in this together, gamblers one and all. So don't patronize them until they come around and get with the real issue here, freedom to spend our money as we choose.

These groups don't seem to realize either you can only get away with the special interest group strategy for so long. The enemies of gambling as a whole are willing to take your help as they take on one group of opponents. Once they are slayed, they will be coming after you. Horse racing people may like their chances if this passed, but it would only be a matter of time before those carve outs disappear. Every victory we give to gambling opponents is a sad day, no matter what game or location they succeed in blocking.

Who knows? It will be a matter of horse trading probably. I would say the odds are against it happening, but Kyl has been working on sneaking this thing through for years so it isn't impossible. I don't think you will see some stupid "values" agenda there giving it front and center attention so probably he will have to cut a deal with leadership to get it through.

I hope for the sake of US bettors it doesn't, but IMO, it's almost a certain thing IF it gets to senate before elections.

The more I think about this, the more I have my doubts it will pass *this* congress. The senate only has about 3.5 weeks until they have a month long break, then they're back in September, when they'll spend most of their time trying to get a budget passed by early October, when they go home to try to get re elected.

How long can this bill sit before the Senate must vote on it or it is thrown out? Is there a certain amount of time?
