KMAN,
You speak the word "government" like it is an "omnipotent being" or something. The "government" is made up, by far, of ordinary people living from one paycheck to another. They do not have a bit more common sense than the reast of average Americans do.
I do not want these people to have "omnipotent power" over the lives of other average citizens.
These are the people who do all of the work, make all the phone calls, gather all the data that is then converted to "propaganda" by the "in-charge" people see on TV.
Just like your or I, these people have personal agendas, want to brown-nose the "boss", screw the boss, don't give a sh1t, make mistakes, forget to do things, too lazy to do the detail work needed, and create all the other fvck-ups that go into running a "government" on a daily basis. Now and then something worthwhile comes out the other end.
I would dearly love if all the murderers, child molesters, dictators, psychos, sociopaths, and various other "waste-products of humanity" could be exorcised, but there is not "MAGIC BULLET" to cure the ills of society. It just is not that easy!
To do the "hard jobs", you have to do the "hard work"! These new Patriot Act Laws are using sledge-hammers to kill roaches. If they could be lifted and dropped fast enough, they would surely do the job. But they can't. By the time the "sledge hammer" can be used, the roaches are long gone, and something else gets slammed. On occasion, a roach will get crushed. But the effort and the results are not equal to the job.
I just don't trust anyone with these "sledge-hammer" laws.
