Interested in an iPhone Odds App?

Hi, I'm a software developer and am considering building an iphone app for sports odds. Would anyone like to have odds from vegas and offshore books on their phone? What else might you want it to do? Would instant push notifications of line changes be valuable? How much is something like that worth to you? Any information, feedback or ideas would be much appreciated.

I would be interested with instant odds and automatic updated push. That would be a very valuable tool. Maybe include odds from 5-8 sports books for each game so it would be easy to shop for the best line.

Ya I would be interested in that. Right now I have a direct link icon to BetJam sportsbook to get my odds and it works well. Do you have any sports apps from the app store? Are you using the new 3g?

This would be my first app in the store, but i already work with and have access to real time feeds from most vegas & offshore books and am thinking that it would be great on the phone. I personally have the 3G but it would work fine on gen 1 as well.

A question about push functionality, would you value notifications on specific lines you are watching when the app isn't open or for real time updates to all lines while you have the app open and are actively using it? Probably both right?

I got the 3g also. Both would be great. Getting an notification when a specific line drops by say 1 pt would be cool, but probably not for your rec. gambler. If you could get real-time lines from a couple different books that would be valuable. If you could make it so its easy to use and has a real nice interface, you 'll get all the college guy wanna be gamblers paying for it. How much you thinking about charging? I guess you could do different packages for football, Basketball etc...

prob not the new 3g one, just the first version with the old software that allows it to be unlocked

Yeah, I was thinking of a different app for each sport, so you would have one for football(NFL/NCAAF), one for basketball(NBA/NCAAB), ect... and it would be odds for the whole season.

Don't have any idea on pricing at the moment. Best I can tell other companies are selling thing like it on the web for ~70/month or a couple hundred per year for it but I was thinking that was a bit high. What do you think would be fair price?

On the unlock, have heard it's at least been done but don't think it's widely available yet.

All depends how much it will cost you. I honestly don't think the average person would pay over $10 a month so it might not be worth it for you. (Again, I just have a link directly to betjam lines and it works fine) But if you could make the interface look nice, that would be the selling point for a lot of people.

You might be able to get $20 a month if it's really good. It might be best to offer a free trial month, and then once you get em hooked, you may be able to get a bit more.

However, I guarantee VERY few people will pay $70 a month. iphones are popular amongst the masses, but I don't think they're prevelant in the sportsbetting world quite yet.

I agree completely on your price comments and am planning on something for the broader audience and much much more affordable for your average guy following games, or in other words guys like me.

Unfortunately with the iPhone App Store there are no trials and you can only do single purchases(no monthly billing), so it will probably be a one time price for the entire season.

Could work for recreational types.

The iphone rocks for the web browsing, all sites for betting work perfectly, even matchbook with their funky java-script code.

Typing is slower thana crackberry, but you get used to it. Highly recommend the iPhone.
