Brewers @ Phillies
Play: Brewers -101

Pros:
Here is a good spot to fade the Phillies, as they are coming off an emotional and hard fought road series against the division rival Mets. The Brewers on the other hand, had the day off yesterday, and send their ace on the mound today. Capuano continues to fly under the radar, as he continues to not get the respect he deserves from linemakers. He has pitched well on the road all year, and pitched the same Phillies team well just a couple of weeks ago, when he went seven strong innings and allowed just two runs. In fact, Capuano hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any game all year. He has given several Phillies hitters problems in the limited at bats they have faced him in. The Phillies are a less dangerous offense against southpaws, and haven’t been hitting them well all year. The Phillies have also not been able to take advantage of their home park that fits their style of baseball, as they are just a .500 team in their home stadium. Capuano has done a good job going deep into games and keeping his walk total down. This should allow him to better avoid the Brewers sub par bullpen. They are also a bullpen that got a day off yesterday, while the Phillies pen was forced to use their best pitchers yesterday. Playing 32 innings on the road in the last 3 games, then having to travel must have done its toll on this Phillies lineup.
Lidle and his sinkerball have simply been unable to counteract the hitter friendly dimensions of his home stadium. He comes into today’s game with a 5 plus home ERA this year. He has also not done a good job getting past six innings, making the probability of some tired bullpen pitchers having to eat up innings a great possibility. Although Lidle has had solid success against the Brewers in the past and several of their hitters, I question the sustainability of this trend. Lidle is a pitcher that is consistently around the strike zone, while the Brewers hitters’ deficiency is swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. It is just a matter of time, until the Brewers are able to rough up Lidle, in my opinion. He has also struggled against three of their hitters in today’s lineup as well.
Cons:
This is a very dangerous lineup to bet against, especially when playing in a hitter’s park. Although Capuano has been impressive all year, including on the road, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back to earth a bit. He has not put forth his best outing on the road in the past, and struggled in his only start in Citizens Bank Park. Although Lidle doesn’t have the most impressive stats at home, his style of pitching is still a fundamental advantage when pitching in this type of Park.
Conclusion:
In my opinion, this is a good time to go against a tired Phillies team that just came off a hard fought series against the Mets. Not having to lay basis points and having an ace on the mound while doing it appears to be a compelling proposition in my opinion.
