Washington (dpa) - A pet dog amazed its Kentucky community when it limped to an animal clinic after being hit by a car, its veterinarian said Friday. The ordeal of Scooby, a shih tzu, started during a thunderstorm when the dog tore his collar and ran away from home. As he crossed onto a busy highway, a vehicle hit the dog, injuring his leg and tail. Staff at the Corbin Animal Clinic, four blocks away, then found the drenched 4-year-old dog waiting outside their clinic, veterinarian Gerald Majors said. "Whether he found his way here by providence or by intelligence, I don't know," Majors said. Scooby spent three days in late July at the clinic, where he had been previously treated, before his worried owner tracked him down. Scooby had part of his tail amputated but was otherwise well, Majors said. "He obviously knew this was the place to get help," Scooby's owner Shirley Farris told broadcaster Local 6 News. "There are subdivisions with hundreds and hundreds of houses between me and the vet's office," she said. "There are three lanes, and there is a mini-mall. How he knew to take himself to the vet, I don't know."
