Indianapolis vs. New England
8:15pm ET

I will begin with my feelings on the Super Bowl.

I can’t understand why the sports media and the public refer to it as, “The Greatest of All Championships”, when it can be won by only winning three games in a row in the playoffs.

In order to win a championship in:

·The NBA you must win 16 playoff games.
·The NHL you must win 16 playoff games.
·The MLB you must win 11 playoff games.

Now let’s examine the New England Patriots who are in a weak division enabling them to finish first annually; which only requires winning 2 home playoff games and then beating another team at a neutral site to win the Super Bowl. Gimme a Break!

This year’s 2013 Patriots went 12-4. They played 4 teams who were Over .500 with a record of 2-2 in those games. The two games they won were won by 3 points; Denver went to OT and the Saints lost with 5 Seconds left on the clock. Both games could have ended up in a loss but didn’t. OK, a win is a win.

NOW! We all believe NE is elite and the fact that the Patriots keep appearing in these Super Bowls is some huge feat. Well it’s not!

Let’s look at this year’s results and compare:

INDY (11-5) Actual SOS .515

They played…
8 Teams < .500
1 Team = .500
7 Teams > .500

Indy BEAT San Francisco (12-4), Seattle (13-3), Denver (13-3), KC (11-5) twice.

NEW ENGLAND (12-4) Actual SOS .472

They Played…
6 Teams < .500
6 Team = .500
4 Teams > .500

Therefore, in 12 of 16 games played this season; NE played against teams with a record of .500 or Less. 75% of their games were against teams <= .500. THAT’S F’ing CRAZY!!!

So let’s consider the four games that NE played superior competition:

  • Two 3-Point wins and
  • The two loses were to Carolina by 4 and Cincinnati by 7.
In conclusion, Brady and NE favored by more than a TD IMHO is a bad line and I believe this game comes down to one score and one play.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Indy won today.

Where are you getting your SOS number?

I calculated the SOS myself.

1. From the list of actual games played this season: Add up all the wins that each competitor had and Add up all the losses that each competitor had this season.

Example

NE played teams with the following actual records this season:

6-10
8-8
4-12
4-12
11-5
11-5
8-8
8-8
8-8
12-4
13-3
2-14
4-12
8-8
8-8
6-10
------
121-135

2. Formula: SOS = W/(W+L) = 121/256 = .472

Look Seattle is no better.

New Orleans Actual SOS is .522

Seattle Actual SOS is .490

Seattle played 9/16 games this season against <.500 teams and 6 games against >.500 teams.

Of those 6 >.500 teams they went 3-3.

So what makes me believe they have a better than 50% chance of winning SU? NOTHING!

Too many points IMHO.

CORRECTION

THEY WENT 4-3 against <.500 competition. My bad missed that. Too rushed. (-:
