Any thoughts on a NHL contest this season? I am thinking of a self scoring contest and allow all of us to grade others. Records; daily/weekly/yearly would have to be posted with picks.

Any ideas/comments appreciated.

We could do a min/max per week on picks.

Is there a good day of the week in NHL to take off?

We should have the same contest as last year during the regular seasonexcept with a few rule changes.

I'd say 10 picks a night max
Period sides & totals included
Can post up until gametime as this by 7 pm rule was quite ridiculous last year.

for starters

Hey, a hockey contest would be great. But 10 picks a night?! Some of us have a little social life, lol.
How about 10 a week max? Let's be more realisitic about how many quality plays there are in a week. Even 10 is pushing it.
If we could have a contest that combines capping games and fantasy points for players that would rock. Maybe picks could include player props?

Any hockey contest would be great, but yea 10 a night is a little hard to keep up with when you have a job.

How bout guess the goals for the night contest?

Like th MNF big score contest.

Then you rank after each night.

The guy whos cloest is ranked #1, the guys whos is 2nd closest is ranked #2 etc etc etc....

The persons ranked #1,2, and 3 after every week will win a prize.

Madcapper.....that is indeed a fandango idea.
Lets do it that way...that sounds like it would make for a very cool contest.

Predicting the goals would of been just a matter of luck. What was wrong with last years contest? I mean besides a contest it helps the forum stay alive. The nhl board would of been dead without that contest last year. Only a couple of people posted their plays (SSI was one)...

I agree with giorg0s as far as how picking total goals scored would be pure luck. I think we should stick with last year's contest with a few rule changes. The contest was a huge success & you shouldn't totally change what worked.

NO WAY should this contest be by predicting goals every night .Not only will it be boring as hell and not challenging, but there will be about 20 posters a night with the same prediction. All the people will do is look at the Grand Salami and if it's 23, everyone will guess a number very close to 23. If we are 200 people in the contest, there will be a ton of 22's, 23's, 24's and so on. No one will predict 38 or 39. And when there is only 2 games and the salami is 10, everyone will say 9,10 and 11. It will be sooooooooooo boring.

Terrible move this will be if we did it this way. And boring as hell..

Predicting the winner in certain games is sometimes easier than total goals....lets go with total goals.

Not sure about JeffH. I wish he were back too. He did a hell of a job.

I do not like the total goal thing either. I would rather see sides/totals only.

Would somebody please explain how the contest worked last year?

I like the idea of a rather low maximum number of picks a week... or making Saturdays the one day of the week for picking games. That's enough action to determine who 'the man' is and it would be easy to score everyone.

Last year we picked sides and totals only, max six per day. Usually the cutoff time was 7pm eastern on weekdays. Based on units won at the end of the season. The season was divided into halves. Standings were tracked for the whole season and for each half.

General,

Just get a sponsor and i will do the rest. I will get us over 100 participants. Just tell shrink to find us a sponsor.

If we can't get JeffH back, I will update everyone's scores at 4 am everyday. How's that? I'm home usually for sure at that time. We will have to have ONLY 3 games per night though, no more. I don't want to be sitting there all night doing this for 3 hrs. So I will check the scores, and copy and paste the next days lines every night at 4 am, is that fair?. And maybe once in a while, a guy can help me for a day or two or three a month to help me check scores of everyones and be my assistant. I might need a day off once in a while to rest, or maybe just be out of town that week. I'm sure a guy like EGD won't mind helping me once in a while and just check after me.. How's that General..Now lets get this thing going. This forum is too dead for my liking. I want this place alive again, just like last year..

Good Idea SickGambler.

I think it should be SIDES and/or Totals.

Min pick per day is 0 and Max pick per day is 3.

So someone can choose to sit out one night and play 1 or 2 or even 3 picks the other night.

And it should be like a min of 25 picks for a poster to claim a monthly prize or something.

Hell lets just do the same exact format as last year with the only change being the be in by 7PM rule. The forum had trouble numerous times & people missed getting picks in & it sucked missing out on selections because you posted at 7:01 & some of your games didn't start until after 8, 9, or 10 PM.

5-6 plays max per day
up until gametime
season/1st H/2nd H prizes
