Lot of it is a matter of simple definations. If you've never had all life's goodies (whatever you may consider them to be) then you don't mis them anyway.

Without the "poor", there are NO rich. Definations again.

The USA fought a civil war over rich and poor. They said it was something different, but I seriously doubt it.

My wife is a Pharmacist, and it pisses her off to no end, when people come in with cell phones, rings on every finger, gold teeth, or come through the drive thur in a brand new car, and get their prescriptions on medicare. I have to listen to her vent about once a week about it.
Don't forget the spinners. They keep on spinning and spinning and spinning. I heard a real nice set of rims costs like $2k or more.

I take it that when she turns 65 she plans to not sign up for medicare? Wow! is she going to pass on social security too?
She's getting screwed over having to pay for it, so she might as well use it. These guys who have cars where the rims keep moving after their car stops don't put a dime in, they just take all they can get. Meanwhile, the Asians and Indians come to this country with absolutely nothing and they climb out of poverty in a generation.

This just shows how f'cked up our culture is when the default use of rich/poor means in terms of wealth. It should mean in happiness/quality of life etc in a healthy world.

We forget about the simple things, but there is a lot of fun in this excess. If the excess is done for fun (eg car, boat, motorbike, jet ski) then it is worthwhile. It isn't if it is for status (eg more people buy cars for status than enjoyment). The excess is only worthwhile if it is making an overall positive improvement to your life. Most excess just isn't worth it though and I think most people would be willing to live a simplier life and just enjoying things like freedom, independence, good company etc.

We (in the US) live in a "throw away" society!
I drive an 11 year old car. Could I get a new one? It's not worth it to me.

Problem is the "rich" are NEVER satisfied! And that's a FACT Jack that I sincerely believe!

Are you fucking kidding me. You complain about not having enough money but you you gamble. You are a loser. We are the stupid ones that go to work to support our families. We are the idiots that get tricked into working so we don't live in a box down by the railroad. Yep you are right what was I thinking. Making money so I can have a big tv with D-network and having a 3 br house with 2 newer cars. OMG I am an idiot for buying that boat and jut skis. Oh man I am just a slave.

I support my family and gamble too. It can be done. I also have not collected a paycheck in over 20 years. I am doing just fine. But that doesn't keep me from seeing how millions of people live who do work and end up having nothing!

Where did I ever say I didn't have enough money? This system we live in obviously doesn't work and you don't have to agree with me.

My point is with all the people in the world and all that they could do if they were working together and humans still can't do it. We let the rich tell us what we are doing. As people were really don't care about each other and that is what money has done to all of us.

Money and religion were invented to seperate us.

Plenty of people in India and China make far less than people working part-time on minimum wage in this country, yet there are as many cell phones over there per capita as there are in the US. Doesn't take much money to get a phone.

Money is just a medium of exhcange. Inflation of the money supply is a bad thing though. We'd be a lot better off without inflation, but there are still going to be poor people no matter what.

My wife is a teacher, kids who get free lunch, have awesome camcorders, drive 30k SUV's, have celphones and on and on.
One time at the grocery store the woman in front of me had her food stamps and then went out to her escalade.

Homeless people with cell phones.

This topic begs at least one important question. How do they charge the cell phone?
Maybe churches provide an area for them.:icon_conf

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by INFLATION, then by DEFLATION, the banks....will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Thomas Jefferson

For brief moments in history we had control of the currency.

The Federal Reserve Scam of 1913 put an end to that for good.

The people behind the money control every aspect of your life. Money, natural resources, politics, wars, Wall St., etc., etc.,

Big joke down here, after the hurricane FEMA actually passed out thousands of cellphones to evacuees. Who ofcourse stayed on them 24/7 and seems like not even 3 weeks later they had to cut them all off...The people complained that the reason they were on them all day and night is that they were trying to call.........FEMA!!!!!

BINGO.

The broad saying "T.O. has 24 million reasons to not commit suicide" is a prime example.

New Hampshire plates have the motto, "Live free or die" and even they don't understand why people in the MIddle East would become suicide bombers and want to kill us when we give them MONEY.

People cherish FREEDOM - the right to do what I want, when I want - and not have anybody be their moral or legal guide. That is a lot more important than money, and if you ask any famous/rich person, that is what they lose when they become prosperous.

And

1) Timberland boots,
2) $120 Nike shoes for their rising 6th grader,
3) $950 Louis Vuitton pocket books
4) $95 shaggy Jeans that can be worn with the crotch down to about their knees.
5) Accura. Gotta be AC boys. :ohno:

How many homeless people are in the USA? How many of them have cell phones?

How many people in the USA that are NOT homeless do not have a cell phone?

I'm sure there are stats and definations for all this.

Even the very word "freedom" and "rich" have different meanings to different people. If there was very much agreement in this country you would not constantly see the Congress shift back and forth from Rep. to Dem. control and vice versa.

I don't know where this quote comes from, but It's stuck with me.

"Don't believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see."

To me, most people's wealth is an illusion. People have the newest
Cadillac Escalades, Navigators, boats, etc., but have a negative net worth. Come on, everyone doesn't own their own corporation! Credit card companies and lenders have a majority of people right where they want them, add to that inflation is killin people. Playstation is a good example. Can everyone afford $700 for this video game? No, but everyone else has one, that must be how much it's worth. Keep it in perspective, IT'S A VIDEO GAME!!!!! We feel forced to live beyond our means, it's human nature. The resistance to not give in is a daily battle, and I'm willing to bet most people have long given in.

Great great post. People feel the need to keep up with the Jones. But people do not realize the Jone's don't have any money on hand. People over buy on thier houses and cars and everything alse. Hell I over buy on certain things to. Things that I enjoy. Hell as of right now I have 7 bowling balls yet I am looking for another one. LOL I am not a big "car" kinda of person. I see it at work all the time. They complain about how much they make yet have to have the newest video game and pimp out the car. They also smoke 3 packs a day. LOL They eat out for lunch everyday. They put DVD players in thier cars and vans. They have the best sound system on a POS car. LOL I love that the best. The car falls apart around the sound system due to the vibratuons.

Again Roch and Poor will always be with us. Hell all of us think back to when you lived on your own and had no money. Now look at what you have achieved yet still have no more spending money as you had before.

That is the wife's and my promise to each other is to save as much as possible in thenext year. Hopefully we should be able to do a $500 a month or more.

How about prison inmates with cellphones ?

National Public Radio reported in October that perhaps thousands of prison inmates are using cell phones (which are contraband in all correctional facilities) and that the problem has gotten so bad that Maryland state Sen. Ed DeGrange said he was sitting at his desk recently when an inmate called him on a cell phone with a list of general complaints. Also, a warden in Texas reported getting a call from the mother of an inmate, demanding that the warden do something to improve cell-phone reception in the prison so she can chat more easily with her son.
