In 21 seasons with South Carolina, Florida, Washington Redskins and Duke, S.Spurrier is 21-0 in... his season openers. The guy just know how to prepare his teams early on. 4-0 with SC, 12-0 with Floirda, 3-0 with Duke and 2-0 with the 'Skins.

We can love him or hate him, but his game #1 record is insane. This season he is working with 100% of his own recruits. No excuse if he fails. He has the talent he wanted and a great chance to prove that he can stil have a good offense. NCST had the worst defense in the ACC last season by a rather big margin.

I'm a big admirer of R.Wilson and what he did last season with NCST. He was $ as a starter, and great as a dog. But keep in mind that NCST was underdog in every game vs lined opponents last season, even against Duke and E.Carolina. Actually, it's only in the second half of the season, when the linemakers realized that NCST is underrated, when the line went under +7 in several games. The question is, will NCST deliver now when the expectations are significiently higher. Can they be a covering machine as favorites ? I'm not so sure about that. They will be better this season and could win 7-8 games but don't expect them to repeat that great 9-2-1 ATS season because it just won't happen.

Finally, this is a ACC vs SEC game with ACC being favored. If history can teach us anything, then we should go with the SEC dog. According to sportsdatabase, ACC teams favored by 4.5-17 pts vs SEC teams are 9-27-1 ATS since 1981.

South Carolina +5 is my first play of the year !

Wow, great stat.

This was and still is a no play for me, unless the 2nd Half offers something.

research --- I did not know that. Great info.

Line was 4 this morning. Looks like there has been some heavy action on NCSU. Perhaps it will hit 6 by game time. If that happens, I think there will be a lot of people playing on SC.

I feel the argument on the NCSU side still outweighs all that but check Birdieman2's thread on this game: http://therxforum.com/showthread.php?t=702136

(There are other older threads with some great info as well.)

This was the first I had head of state going with 2 QBs. That and your stats are starting to create a seed of doubt, that's for sure.

BOL on the game and this season.

didnt Duke lose to SCar in 1989 in their first game?
I think SS was the head coach then?

also, in every one of those wins, SS's teams was a double digit favorite every time with UF and all but once with SCar and Duke. The smallest favorite SS team was was -6 (vs MSU in 2006) but mostly he was a huge favorite.

so, yes, Steve has won all those games. But he should have. he played very weak teams almost every time and was a favorite in those games.

in the one time he was a dog.......he lost.

I'm going to say that record sounds better than it is. Florida always plays a nobody in their first game. I'd be surprised if there were too many lines under 20 in UF's first games. Those games don't mean much to me in handicapping this game Thursday.

S. Carolina played NC st. last season and they were a mess to start the season. The three years before that were ULL at home, Miss. St who went 3-9 that year and UCF at home who actually wasn't that bad that year but still UCF at home. I don't know about Duke.

I wouldn't say the record is meaningless, but I would say it's a little misleading.

Good post. It's not my favorite play, but I think USC is the right side. Good luck.

Too many games on the board this weekend with better value. This one is getting a lot of attention because it is one of the first of the year. Too close to call, but good luck.

More ammo

=> Play On - Underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points (S CAROLINA) - in the first month of the season, after closing out last season with 2 or more straight losses, team that had a winning record last season.
(24-4 over the last 10 seasons.) (85.7%, +19.6 units. Rating = 3*)
