In going to the various forums and also reading the emails, I noticed of late that Bob Costas took a lot of heat for how he performed
both announcing and analyzing in the Yankees/Mariners series and one of the leaders of the charge being Mike Francesa.
The criticisms leveled against him were mostly that he is too long-winded, talks about things ( a lot of it historical and related to baseball)
and just plain facts.
I totally disagree with this assessment, and in fact, put him right up there with Vin Scully who imo was/is the creme de la creme
by which all others should be judged.
The reasons I relate to Bob Costas are first of all because he is extremely bright, well-educated and has a mind that runs deep.
In addition, he says what he says in a very well-thought-out and logical manner to state his facts and make his points.
I can understand why lots of people cannot relate to him, namely because as is the case in this thread, the people saying it
are either very shallow individuals themselves who only care about the game itself and/or do not have the intellect
or intellectual curiosity to even care about what he is saying because like the folks in here they are interested only
in skin deep reporting.
On the other hand, folks like myself who have the intellect and probing minds, love his commentary and that it adds so much
to the game.
Obviously you can disagree with what I just posted, but imo at the very least it points out the big glaring differenec of the mindset
of people who think like me and appreciate folks like Bob Costas and those who do not!!
