You have a hot horse. Do you bet him just to win, or bet him win place? I would assume show wagering is for squares. Thanks for any help here.

Really depends what kind of race we're talking about and what his odds. Say there are 12 horses in the field and the horse is 10-1. I would most likely be betting WPS. Say he's 3-1 in a field of 6. I'm betting him to win unless there are other horses I can tie him to in exotics wagering.

Those are very good answers. I guess I need to assess the fields and the odds. It just seems like every time i play win only, my horse runs second, and when i play win place, he runs out. lol. OH well. thanks again for those intelligent answers.

and when i play a horse to show he runs fourth LOL

I guess you are saying that win only is the best?

Like I said the "head" has something to do with it.
Losing streaks will be forever at times which affects many people handicapping skills
You sound recreational so do the pl and sh- no biggie but if you do the stats on your plays you will find that the money your playing on pl and sh instead went on win end youd be better off
ps- I play pl and show myself occasionally but
weak head here- sometimes gaining the extra confindence in your future picks is worth it-ESP when on a down streak

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. When you say i sound recreational, you are right. I bet higher than most pros, but my winning percentage has been horrible. I play "steam" horses, and still have been getting crushed. I have spoken to several sharps at various tracks, and they pretty much come to the same conclusion, that in the long run you will do better with win only. the only exception being when a horse is 15-1, you can make a big score when he runs second. Take care sir.

Bet to win.

Less dime breakage

get 10% bonus on win wagers at 5 dimes at major tracks.

I think that is the best option.

unless there are great overlays in a double pool or something.

A "HOT" HORSE should be used in exactas and triples mainly! You can easily make money on a hot horse without raising any red flags by betting exotics! I FOUND many hot horses by watching the exacta pools! Thats where a true hot horse will be found!!

Jim is right to a great extent. Hot horses are basically the same as steam horses. These are horses where the wiseguys know something that win more often than not.

Hot horses .There use to be maybe 25 hot horses a day in las vegas. They would keep the whole town broke this was before paramutuel. Before para mutuel the race books were scared to deathone might win .When they went paramutuel they wantto take everything no risk, about 15%hold , expect house quinellas risk maybe $20$ To answer question anything over 8 to 1 I would bet win and place . why bet money on exoctics on horses you knpw nothing aboutand risk blowing the bet on the horses.at least 1/2 of your money should to win.
