deluxe

The wonderful views of the Villa Borghese park are what make the deluxe rooms so special. They all have balconies and elegant decor, as well as double or twin beds, warm boiserie finishes and refined upholstery.

Precious paintings, a comfortable desk and Empire-style armchairs compete the furnishings, and blend with the hi-tech systems which include Wifi, LCD Pay TV and air conditioning. The Italian marble bathrooms are in soft shades and all have bathtubs with showers and bidets.

There is plenty to see in the Rome area, you could spend 5 days in Rome and not see everything.

I'd also highly recommend Florence and Venice.

My wife is a tour guide for tours that hit Rome, Florence and Pompeii areas (part time). So, PM me if you are looking for recommendations/ideas...

The coliseum is a must see, seems obvious but's it's pretty surreal to be standing it in and thinking about how long ago it was built and people fought and died here. I will never forget that...

I would also book any of the major sites through a tour guide. With ours we skipped all the lines and we got to go in an area that was closed for everyone else. It was barely much more money than picking up tickets on our own and we skipped the 1 1/2-2 hour wait in lines. Learned something too.

Look for food places that look like holes in the wall. I was unimpressed with many of the $100+ meals we ate but some of the best we found were mom and pop shops here and there. Great food and great people but overall I was disappointed with the food in Italy. One other note, most people there don't eat dinner until 8 or 9 pm. We went to eat at 5:30 once and many restaurants weren't even open yet.

Venice I loved, Florence we spend the day there took a train and we saw everything we wanted to see in 4 hours and wished we didn't book all day there. It's not terrible but overrated imo. Cab drivers are insane, make New York cabbies look like the safety police.

Have a great time, it's a fantastic place to visit.

Hotel Lunetta in Rome, absolutely impeccable

English speaking, centrally located, walking distance to many attractions

every bit of advice the staff gave us was spot on

for example, when you go the see the Vatican hire a private tour guide. They take you right to the door, you don't have to wait in line for hours AND you get an amazing personal tour

when you go the the Colosseum, buy your tickets in advance at the hotel and do your own tour, once again the quickest way to gain access to the facility

I would tell you other sites I'd visit, but you're on a cruise so I can't help much

the food, the culture, the people, the history are all indescribable

I would think it would be neat to visit Jim Morrisons grave.
But that is just me

Jim Morrison's grave is in Paris. The only cities in France he's hitting are off of a cruise, and would only be port cities on the south coast. He's not going to
be any where near there.
