If your book posts a wrong line....

This morning my book posted a wrong money line where a team that was a huge favorite was listed as a huge dog (Team A). I saw the mistake and bet the huge on Team A ONLY b/c i knew the line was totally off.

About 20 min later, i saw that the bet was voided (which i thought would happen).

I had a feeling that the play would be voided but my 2 questions are...

1) Should the book have voided this play since the play was listed and i confirmed the play?

2) What if for some reason, i played Team B on this play (hopefully NOBODY ever makes this mistake). Would the book refund my money then or would they say "sucks for you"?

Again, not going to bitch and cry about it but should the book have voided this wager?

I think this has happened to most everybody thats played for a while.

When i see a wrong line i call them and tell them. Most times they act like they dont care but i have occasionaly gotten an appreciation bonus. ... alaways call them , and NEVER place a bet where you know it's a mistake.

Ty is right....honesty by far the best course of action here....but even worse is what happens when the game is over and your bet isn't voided yet. You are in a position to get freerolled. If you win you probably aren't getting that bet to stand but if you lose will you get the bet voided?

yeah, this would never fly at any book. Every book would void your wager, the shadier ones like shdw mentioned may freeroll you.. meaning if the bet lose, count it as a loss, if it wins, they void for a bad line...

100% call it in, I've gotten a Freeplay almost every time I have... It rarely happens anymore... but back in the day, I remember seeing it almost weekly...

Bookies posting here among others give me hell for this, but here's my opinion...

It's not the players responsibility to make sure you post the right line.
We all make mistakes and sometimes have to eat it.
For example, if walmart prices an item wrong, even if its wayyy off, they have a policy in which they honor it and give it to the customer for the price listed, accepting a loss.

Heres another scenario. ... Someone offers me a wager on a line that was plus/minus 10.
I accept the bet at +10.
When I get home, I find out that for whatever reason, the line had dropped to +6 for hours before we agreed on the bet.

Should I now be calling the guy and backing out on the wager?
In my opinion hell no.
I made the wager an I honor it.

Ive caught heat for this theory in the past and im sorry but I dont really care because that's my belief.

I guess im just a man of my word no matter what the circircumstances...

I catch hell for feeling the same way.

Started a thread about it years ago and guys all over the board gave me shit for days on end but I don't care.

If the line is posted, I feel they should honor it. Period.

I can understand both points of view on 'bad lines', I think the problem has always been what constitutes a 'bad line'. As stated here earlier, we have all seen games move 4,5, even 6 or more points for various reasons. So, I have always given bettors the benefit of the doubt with bad lines. Every situation is different due to who played the bad line. For example, a small bettor would almost always get to keep his play with me where any Wiseguy who knowingly bet a bad number would be given the choice of keeping his play or getting booted. Of course, there are always exceptions but in our book , players' honesty and class are always rewarded !

Everyone makes mistakes and I don't think books are excluded from that.

I think they should have a right to void if they made a mistake. but it should be done before game starts. I don't think it is right to freeroll the customer after game starts.

I just don't want to get some poor guy fired cause he just pushed on + instead of a -.

Either way, if this isn't an OBVOIUS error, I do not think anything should happen

Who is to say what an obvious error is?

If I don't follow ghetto hockey and hear that LeBron is saying what a big game he is going to have, how am I to know what the line should be?

you are right mike bitch....if I only go to one site and get one place for lines and don't know shit then yes you are right.

however most of us have multiple outs, line service, and/or websites that show current lines and line movements. If you are one of these guys then you should know what is obvious. If Patriots are -10 at every other site/book and you see them at -1 or +10 then you should hopefully know this is an obvious error

I will side with hache and mike...if a line is 2 or 3 points off I may go with off line and not mistake/error line

but I think there are clearly obvious errors...if I see a team that is a 2 pt dog at +200 (-110), then I know something is up

First time this ever happened to me was with Aces Gold. I played a bad line & they voided it as (blatantly incorrect) which it was.

2nd time was with Intertops, the line was a little off something like +195 -230 when ever other book was about +150 & -175. The was not
blatantly incorrect & they kept there line there for over an hour. I won but after the game they voided it as a bad line. I called & challenged
it and we compromised they gave me half of what I won.

All this was 9 or 10 years ago.

Like I said, if it is nba and I'm just placing a tv bet, how would I know if a line is off by 8-10?

I don't have the luxury every night like I did last night and ask you who you like in the Cavs game. I mean, that's easy, I just went with the Fakers and won.

BTW, do you like the Heat at -6 tonight? (I hope so)

True shdw but I'll be honest, I don't care if it's 1 point or 10 points, if it's put up and someone makes the wager and the system accepts it, then I agree with Enfuego that it should count.

Let me ask this shdw....

If you and I make a wager in person friend to friend, what would many people follow that up with?

A Handshake.

That handshake seals the deal and agreement that both will honor their agreement.

When someone makes a wager online, and you click "verify", and the system accepts it, that's the exact same thing as a handshake.

Don't get me wrong, if I see a line way off I wouldn't try to take advantage, and I know they would void it anyhow, but I just feel strongly about the things I posted above and the examples I used further above in this thread...

The play was a certain team was -600 on the money line but my book had them at +600. After contemplating whether to make this play or not (obvious error) I decided to & figured while confirming the play, the book would reject it. There have been plenty of times where I make a play & find out the line moved.

The book voided the play 20-30 min later and I can't argue about it. But it's true what some of u said. Yes, it was "not right" to make that play but this play was being offered. There was an offer & an acceptance. Plus when I go to the store and the price of an item is way lower than it should be, I make the purchase unless the cashier tells me the price is higher.

Then again sports "picking" is a different game. Most of us are begging books/locals to take our action b/c we are confident that they will pay when it's time to collect our winnings (if we are so lucky)

I was kinda with you till u said you make the purchase at the store knowing the price was wrong but if the poor young girl making minimum wage doesn't catch you, then it's fair game
