All so very, very true. Buying a house was the worst thing I've ever done. There's a big world out there and it makes me sad to think I'm writing another mortgage check in a few days rather than using that money on off-peak trip somewhere.

Timely post. I'm 35 (3 kids) and have a big house (it's in Nebraska so it's all relative). We both make plenty of money but we have a nice big house because that's what my wife wanted. I would gladly downsize so we had more money to do whatever we wanted, save more, etc.

In 30 years I will remember our trips much more than I will that we had granite counter-tops. Meaning I should be taking more trips!

I was engaged a couple years back - thank god the marriage never materialized. Since then, I left a very good job and entered the non-profit sector. It's tough. Philanthropy in general is down 30% across the board, and I've had to make some lifestyle changes, but I wouldn't change anything.

I had money, a nice house, car, vacations abroad etc. Doesn't mean a thing in the end. What I have now is enough money to gamble, pay my bills, play golf and, most importantly, I'll leave some kind of footprint, however little, for when I'm no longer around.

Yup. After about two months the granite countertops are just a place you use to make your sandwich. Same as the cheap formica jobs you had in your college apartment. But the memory of swimming with the rays in the beautiful clear water of Grand Cayman Island, that never stops being wonderful.

I would live in Vegas and spend every day taking advantage of everything the city has to offer

Only a few months until I'm in my 30s and that's exactly what I'll be doing

Being single is way more expensive then living the married life. That is if one is doing it right.

im 27 and have about as much responsibility as i did when i was 14 or 15....

no debt...everything paid off...work a a light schedule...im really cheap and my lifestyle costs very little to maintain....couple more years ill be 30 and nothing will have changed....

i tell people i simply dont like working and would rather be cheap and not work then work and blow money on iphones, electronics and other black holes for money

Yep, especially since mortgages and our whole banking system is a fraudulent ponzi scheme.

Agreed. Me - 46, never married, no kids and taking care of two parents who really need the help now. Guess they are my kids.

What would you be doing with your life? If you are in that position, what are you doing?

I'm 31, single and no kids. The best way to answer this question is by saying the grass is always greener on the other side. All these guys in this thread are talking about how much ass they would be crushing and all the money they would have, and maybe they are right. But eventually I think most people want the whole relationship thing. Being single definatly has its perks at times. I can do whatever i want whenever i want to do it. But i would rather be spending my time with a women that makes me truely happy then being single. The flaw in my theory is that 99.999% of all women are f-ing nuts.
