How would u handle pre-season?
How much would you play your stars?
Its a fine line to walk, you certainly don't want to get them injured, but at some point, u need to get the rust off of them before the season starts....
But if you coach the Packers, how much "practice" do you really think Bret Favre needs? I mean its in his blood, to play, he can't need much....
I like the philosophy alot of coaches seem to apply which is a quarter per game added, until the preseason ends.....
I think if it was me, they would probably play a quarter in the first 2 games, and a half in the last 2, just to get them ready....
I think its much more beneficial to give the backup (especially if a rookie) alot of reps to see what they can really do....
I mean during the season, you really don't get too good an idea by bringing them in for a set of downs, when you are down 34-3 in the fourth.....
I think the preseason can be much more beneficial being used that way.....
Do coaches REALLY care if they win preseason games? i mean isnt it just human nature to want to win no matter what it is....I mean i see them calling time outs at the end, trying to get the ball back just like reg season, they must want to win, or at worst, want to practice the 2 minute drill....
Even though the games dont mean alot, i would still prefer to go into the season after a 4-0 preseason rather than 0-4....Just for the simple fact of "confidence" among the players...
Would be interested to hear your opinions on this.....
